The golf driver selections for this test are:

Which of These Best Golf Drivers Is Right for You?

Finding the best driver for your game really depends on your personal abilities and preferences, but we’ve compiled our findings to create this comprehensive guide to the best golf drivers currently on the market. We determined which options performed best in terms of distance and accuracy.

Our testing panel is comprised of golfers of varying experience and ability levels, so you can find the players that are most similar to you. Each driver tested was the standard flight model, but was custom fitted for each tester to match their swing and the current driver they use.

How We Tested the Best Golf Drivers

All of the data was collected in the controlled indoor environment of the TGW Wichita Pure Performance Center. Testing was conducted under the guidance of Rick Hatfield, TGW’s Master Fitter; who used a Foresight GC2 launch monitor to record numbers and had all of the golfers use the 2024 Titleist Pro V1 golf ball to keep variables constant. The data presented is an average of a minimum of 8 drives for each club. To evaluate the best golf drivers for different player profiles, we split our testers into two different groups and tested drivers made for golfers that have more moderate swing speeds (95 mph or less) and those that swing 95-105 mph (faster swing speeds).

Following our testing, the customer panel did have additional comments about several drivers feeling or sounding good, although they may not have given them the best numbers. While our findings are data-driven, we highly recommend all golfers get fitted and test the drivers themselves when possible, because golf is very much an individual sport. All told, we compiled a final ranking using statistics like the PGA Tour uses, where distance and accuracy rankings are averaged together to determine a #1 driver overall among the best golf drivers we tested. Ranking #1 for 4 of our 7 testers and #2 for a 5th, the overall winner was the Titleist TSR3 driver.

FAQs About the Best Golf Drivers

What is the longest, straightest, or most forgiving golf driver?

Based on TGW’s testing, the longest drivers included the PING G430 Max 10K and TaylorMade Qi10 Max for moderate swing speeds, and the PING G430 LST for faster swing speeds. TGW’s test did not name a single straightest or most forgiving driver overall, because consistency can vary by golfer based on launch, spin, and fit. When comparing the best golf drivers, it is important to look beyond raw distance and consider which model gives you the best combination of confidence, stability, and ball flight for your swing.

What degree driver goes the farthest, and how does swing speed affect the right loft?

There is no single loft that goes the farthest for every golfer. In general, golfers with moderate swing speeds often benefit from more loft to help launch the ball more easily, while faster swingers may fit into lower-lofted options depending on their launch and spin numbers. That is why swing speed, contact, and ball flight all matter when comparing the best drivers on the market and deciding which loft is right for you.

Which shaft flex is best for my swing speed?

The right shaft flex usually depends on your swing speed, tempo, and how you load the club during the swing. Golfers with slower swing speeds often benefit from more flexible shafts that help increase launch and feel, while faster swingers may prefer stiffer options for more control. Because each driver in TGW’s test was custom fitted to the golfer using it, the best way to confirm the right shaft flex is through testing or a professional fitting. For more help understanding driver features and fit, see TGW’s Golf Driver Buying Guide.

How much should I spend on a golf driver?

You do not always need the most expensive club to find one of the best golf drivers for your game. The best value comes from choosing a driver that fits your swing, delivers reliable launch and distance, and gives you confidence off the tee. For some players, that may be a current release, while for others, a well-fit prior-generation model may still be the best driver for the money.

Finally, thank you for an unbiased review of the 2022 drivers. It was great to see exactly how each driver performed using a variety of skill levels and comparisons between actual results. Each golfer has a unique swing and results will vary, but your test is a great starting point for anyone looking for a new driver. Thanks for only having one winner in each category and not 15 golf medal winners!

Thank you very much for this informative and helpful test. Very interesting especially for me as a Ping fan! Do you have any speculation as to why two 6 handicappers would lose ~25 yards with the Stealth driver?

What is Alex’s present driver? HIs stats and mine are very similar. Asking well over $500 for a golf club is a bit much without complete data. My present driver is a M4 with a Pro 50 Flex-M shaft. What is the error when hitting into a screen?

Alex is a 14-handicap golfer who plays 25+ rounds per year and currently uses a TaylorMade SIM driver to an average of 189 yards.

A teaching pro once told me that a mid to high handicap golfer would be just as well off hitting a 3-fairway metal off the tee as a driver. What are your thoughts of the Ping 425 MAX driver versus the Ping 425 3-metal? My handicap is 14.
