New Titleist TS Metals: What’s New vs. 917?

For two years, the research and development team at Titleist has been on a mission to make a faster driver than ever before. They called it the Titleist Speed Project. Some of the best golfers in the world challenged Titleist to produce faster clubs for a new generation of speed, distance, and performance. The result was the brand new TS metals. These new golf clubs are completely redesigned and rebuilt. Read on for a comparison of the new TS clubs against the prior generation 917 metals to see what all is new.
There are two different designs in the TS metals: the TS2 and TS3. It is so different that Titleist changed the way they named these clubs. While these new designs are every bit as accurate as the previous models, they are now longer and faster thanks to the Speed Chassis.

With the Speed Chassis, Titleist was able to produce speed from every detail of these golf clubs. There are five factors that go into the Speed Chassis design:

  • Ultra-lightweight, thinnest titanium crown yet (20% lighter)
  • Thinner, faster, laser-engraved club face
  • Club face is now 100% inspected to the highest standards for maximum allowable speed
  • 10 grams of weight placed deep and low for less spin and high launch
  • 20% less drag for a more streamlined performance

TS2 vs. 917D2

This year’s TS2 driver has three main differences from the previous 917D2 driver.

  • TS2 features the new Speed Chassis design
  • TS2 no longer has the Active Recoil Channel
  • TS2 no long has the SureFit CG system
  • TS2 includes the SureFit hosel to independently change loft and lie

TS3 vs. 917D3

The TS3 driver has a little more in common with its 917D3 counterpart.

  • TS3 features the new Speed Chassis design
  • TS3 no longer has the Active Recoil Channel
  • TS3 still includes the SureFit CG system and SureFit hosel for maximum adjustability
