Titleist SM7 Wedges Customer Review

The Vokey Wedge is a ‘household name’ in golf, and these SM7 wedges solidify their name in the game.

TECHNOLOGY

Bob Vokey, lead designer of the Vokey Wedge by Titleist, has a huge passion for what he does. This includes providing golfers with a variety of options when they choose their wedges. With the SM7 wedges, you can customize your wedge set depending on the playing conditions you normally play on, or develop them to fit your set. The F & S Grinds are meant for the lower lofted clubs (46-52 degree wedges), and is meant for a fuller wedge swing. The F being for a steeper angle of attack and the S for a shallower angle of attack and the player with simpler mechanics. The M & D Grinds are for players who like to create different types of shots with wedges around the greens and is the most versatile grind of the SM7 series. The M Grind meant for a more shallow angle of attack (such as on short pitches and chips paired with firm conditions) and the D Grind meant for swings with a steeper angle (such as a spinning pitch/lob or a bunker shot) as well as softer, wetter conditions. The K Grind has the highest bounce for wetter conditions and very heavy bunkers, while the L Grind has the shallowest angles of bounce which is meant for skilled shotmakers and firm conditions.

They also add changes to the groove design according to the lofts of the clubs. The lower lofted wedges have wider, shallower grooves for fuller swings, while the higher lofted wedges have narrower, deeper grooves for more control on shorter shots.

APPEARANCE

In my opinion, it doesn’t get any cleaner looking than a Vokey Wedge. I am firm believer in the fact that the player must like what they’re looking at to be committed to the shot they are about to play. Choosing from all the custom grind/bounce options can be a bit overwhelming, however when you find those wedges that are just right, the look of the Vokeys will breed the confidence in any player looking to score and improve. A confident attitude will breed a great short game, and I think the Vokey name and short game are synonymous with each other.

FEEL

I feel the most consistent and successful wedge makers find a great product/way to design a wedge, however never change the feel of their clubs. As long as I have been playing, I feel that Vokeys have always had a great, soft, yet solid feel to their wedges. You know when you’ve struck a good shot with a Vokey, and can rely that the result will exactly as you pictured when executed.

RESULTS

There’s a reason why Vokey is such a big name in the game of golf. I believe they simply make the best wedges around, and have improved an already amazing line of SM6 wedges with the SM7s. With the variety of options there are to the player, it would be silly not to give these an honest try. I really suggest seeing a local PGA Professional to get fit for a new set of SM7s to suit your game because a solid short game is the best and easiest way to improve your scores. These get a 10/10 in my book.
