Go Inside the New Titleist Pro V1 & Pro V1x with the Experts
Titleist released brand new Pro V1 and Pro V1x golf balls in 2015. These new offerings make a difference in the game of any golfer. Titleist has packed new technology into these golf balls that deliver more spin and control in your short game. Read our conversation with the team that developed these golf balls and learn how they can help your golf game.
TGW: What are the differences between the new Titleist Pro V1 and Pro V1x golf balls and the previous generation?
Titleist: When we started developing the new Titleist Pro V1 and Pro V1x the overwhelming feedback we received was that golfers from Tour players to amateurs were looking for softer feel and more short game control, without sacrificing the long distance, flight and spin characteristics that they loved about Pro V1 and Pro V1x. We were able to employ a new cover technology that both softened the cover and provided more spin and short game control in the new Pro V1 and Pro V1x.
TGW: Often times you’ll hear a golfer say “I’m not good enough to play a Pro V1 or Pro V1x”. How do these golf balls make a difference for golfers of all abilities?
Titleist: Golfers of all abilities will notice the short game spin and control that Pro V1 and Pro V1x provide. It’s these shots, around the green where scoring takes place, that all golfers will benefit from Pro V1 and Pro V1x. Both golf balls deliver exceptional distance as well.
TGW: With two different golf balls, what are the immediate differences a golfer will notice between a Pro V1 and Pro V1x?
Titleist: Pro V1 and Pro V1x are differentiated in 3 main characteristics: long game spin, flight and feel.
- Pro V1x has slightly lower long game spin that Pro V1
- Pro V1 has a lower, more penetrating flight than Pro V1x
- Golfers report that Pro V1 feels softer than Pro V1x
TGW: All golfers love the feeling of crushing the ball off the tee but when you design these golf balls, which do you see as more important, distance or short game control?
Titleist: We recommend all golfers start near the green when choosing the right Titleist golf ball for their game. The spin, control and feel that Pro V1 and Pro V1x provide in the short game will help all golfers score their best. From there, work backward toward the tee, comparing both balls on ½ wedge shots, short irons, long irons and finally with the driver.
TGW: If you were handing a Pro V1 or Pro V1x to a golfer who has never played one before, what is the first thing you’d tell them to expect out of this ball’s performance?
Titleist: I would tell this golfer that Pro V1 and Pro V1x are the easiest golf balls to control. Their low spin and long distance off of the tee will help them get it in play and their high spin around the green will provide control on short shots.
TGW: Finally, what kind of feedback have you gotten from Tour players about these golf balls that would inspire confidence in the everyday golfer?
Titleist: Week in and week out, Pro V1 and Pro V1x are the #1 ball on worldwide tours. If the best players in the world overwhelmingly trust these balls for their livelihood, the everyday golfer can be confident that Pro V1 and Pro V1x can help them shoot their best score.
