TaylorMade continues to innovate their golf irons with two models of SIM Max irons. With these golf clubs, TaylorMade set out to create irons that produce pure distance and speed with an even better feel. They provide golfers with two options to choose from. For the golfer who wants distance and feel powered by Speed Bridge, they have the SIM Max irons. For the super game improvement golfer who wants maximum distance and forgiveness, they have the SIM Max OS irons. Our exclusive videos give you an inside look at how they perform.
TaylorMade SIM Max Irons Review
Speed Bridge is back in the SIM Max irons. This unique design structure connects the sole of the club head to the topline to create a lower center of gravity and support the topline so it does not flex as much. By supporting the top and bottom of the club this way, it focuses the flex on the face for explosive distance. The face on the SIM Max irons is incredibly thin at just 1.5 millimeters thick. TaylorMade also included one of their signature technologies, the Inverted Cone Technology, but with a new twist. “Inverted Cone Technology is progressive now. We can tune the cone position to every club and tune that specific technology for individual performance,” Chandler Carr of TaylorMade told us.
Speaking of progressive technology, the long irons in the SIM Max set are more draw-biased. More weight is shifted out to the toe for forgiveness in the clubs and shots where you truly need it. With distance and forgiveness built-in, TaylorMade then set out to create a better feel and what they developed was the ECHO Damping System. This geometry channels the energy at impact to eliminate vibrations and improve feel without losing flexibility in the face. So not only does this system make the irons feel better when you hit the ball, but it also helps protect distance.
Who It’s For
The TaylorMade SIM Max irons are a game improvement iron with a clean look. They are made for the distance player who wants forgiveness. However, the SIM Max irons do not sacrifice on feel. TaylorMade calls them their best-feeling distance iron and they do boast a soft feel with their game improvement performance.
Performance
We tested the TaylorMade SIM Max irons next to the M5 irons from last season. The SIM Max irons, using the 7 iron, saw an increase of ball speed in 4 mph. They produced high launch with a perfect peak trajectory for the 7 iron. We saw similar increases in club head speed which did unlock more distance in the SIM Max irons. Our product expert also noticed that these irons helped reduce the ball wanting to go to the right so if you have some issues with slicing, these irons can be alleviate that problem.

TaylorMade SIM Max OS Irons Review
TaylorMade’s SIM Max OS irons take everything about the SIM Max golf club features and take them even farther. These irons are squarely in the super game-improvement category. The center of gravity is pushed even lower with a wider, more forgiving sole. With more mass focused low in the club head, the lower, deeper center of gravity produces high, penetrating, more forgiving ball flight. The lofts are also 1.5 degrees stronger than the SIM Max irons for pure distance performance.
The SIM Max OS irons are loaded with all the signature TaylorMade technologies. These clubs include Speed Bridge, the ECHO Damping System, and an ultra-thin club face. For golfers who want pure distance to make the game easier, this is the iron model you are looking for.
Who It’s For
The TaylorMade SIM Max OS irons are maximum game improvement golf clubs. They are designed for golfers who need forgiveness across the face to reduce the effects of their mis-hits. It is also designed to help golfers who struggle to launch the ball with an oversized construction that helps get the ball in the air.
Performance
The TaylorMade SIM Max OS irons are fast. Our product expert picked up 2-3 mph more club head speed which increased ball speed about 2 mph when compared to the M6 irons. These irons produced a little bit less spin as well which helped produce a piercing trajectory. Overall, we picked up more distance and speed with a forgiving iron that is easy to launch with SIM Max OS technology.

TaylorMade SIM Max Rescue Review
Designed with the same technology as the TaylorMade SIM Max fairway woods, the rescue hybrids fit right into golf club sets as long iron replacements. For the first time in a hybrid, TaylorMade used their V Steel Sole design. It glides right through the turf so it is perfect for those long game shots where you need clean contact to get maximum distance and reach the green. The SIM Max hybrids also include Twist Face technology to help produce straighter shots in common places where the ball is mis-hit. The face is also made of high-strength C300 steel, built to be stronger for explosive speed and distance.
Who It’s For
The TaylorMade SIM Max rescue is ideal for the golfer with moderate to lower club head speed. Golfers who need more distance in the long game and need more height to achieve a better landing will greatly benefit from a rescue design like this.
Performance
We tested the TaylorMade SIM Max rescue club against last year’s M6 rescue. Compared to last year’s model, this new SIM Max rescue showed gains in ball speed and club head speed to produce more distance. Another noticeable difference was the height. Our product expert was hitting the ball 10 feet higher in the air which provided a steeper decent angle which is great for hitting into greens. Improved trajectory and improved decent angle were big differences with the new SIM Max. We also saw a 10 yard tighter dispersion and improved turf interaction with the V Steel sole on a day where our tester was hitting on tight, thin lies.

got my SIm max irons and checked them on a club tool. The lofts and lies are all off compared to the posted numbers. Trying to get distances and have consistent shits between clubs is a mess. Spent hours on a spin launch monitor trying to get them dialed in.
Got a 4Hybrid with a dead face. 15 MPH ball speed dead. Taylormade needs to “check” the club before replacing a bad club.
Not real impressed with Taylor quality control. Lie and lofts all screwed up.
