The new MG2 wedges from TaylorMade are bringing a new level of precision to your short game. MG2 is the second generation of TaylorMade’s milled grind wedge. Everything from the Milled Grind Sole, to the laser etching, and a variable face construction is designed to make you better around the greens. They have now added raw face technology that allows only the clubface to rust to further boost spin on wedge shots. Get all the details in our exclusive conversation with Chandler Carr from TaylorMade.
TGW: What are the benefits of this unique milled grind sole?
Chandler Carr: By milling the sole, it allows TaylorMade to make the perfect grind. You can replicate the grind easily. Instead of eyeballing the sole and testing it time after time, we can get the grind right and make it perfect, club after club.
TGW: How does the new raw face technology help in the short game?
CC: The raw face is an experience. It looks good but it performs. The wedges come vacuum-sealed with a special sticker we developed with 3M that prevents rusting on the shelf but immediately starts once the sticker is removed. Rust helps maintain spin longer and maintain the groove geometry for more friction and spin.
TGW: So how long does it take rust to develop on a wedge like this?
CC: Surface rust can happen overnight, after just one round. If the ground is a little wet or has just any kind of moisture, you can notice surface rust right away. But it does take time for it to rust through and get down into the wedge. It does take a little bit of time. It’s something you’ll notice over the life of the wedge the more you play.
TGW: What kind of control will golfers have with the MG2 wedges?
CC: These wedges have a variable thickness face that helps with launch and control. With the new face technology, you may see lower launch and more spin on certain shots. The variable face provides the solid feel golfers want from their wedges.
Take your precision and spin to a whole new level with the TaylorMade MG2 wedges.
I’ve been playing the TM Hi-Toe wedges this season and love them! The bronze colour is amazing and they feel really soft.
