“There’s a gap between irons and woods. That’s the inherent problem in golfers’ bags. Irons only go so far and woods are only so controllable,” Carr told us.
Every golfer at every level has irons that just aren’t as playable for them. As irons get longer, the gaps between yardages narrow. TaylorMade solves that issue with the new GAPR because it provides distance to fill those gaps between irons and woods, but with the control of an iron. You swing it like an iron without worrying about hitting a fairway wood off the deck when you’re outside that range.
There are three models of the GAPR: High, Mid, and Low. GAPR High is available in 3, 4, 5, and 6 iron models. It has the highest trajectory and is the most versatile of the three. The High plays the most like a fairway wood. GAPR Mid comes in 3, 4, and 5 iron options. It features a mid trajectory, low center of gravity and is easily workable with a more iron-like face profile. GAPR Low features 2, 3, and 4 iron designs. It’s more like a driving iron with the lowest trajectory of the three and a thinner sole. All three designs can be played by all types of golfers and all three will have a Tour presence, although Carr predicts Low will be used the most by the professionals.
Each version of GAPR includes an adjustable loft sleeve with a total of 1.5° of adjustability. This gives golfers the opportunity to fine-tune the performance of these clubs.
In the end, TaylorMade wants to make it easy to address your problem distance. “You can easily self-diagnose your neglected distance and self-select which GAPR is best for you,” Carr commented.
