PING’s G410 LST Driver Offers Unique Combination of Low Spin, High MOI

PING is dedicated to bringing its signature performance to all golfers. That includes providing three options in their driver models. For years now, PING has produced their standard driver plus two variations: a Straight Flight Tec model and Low Spin Tec model. The LST model features a design different than the standard model, usually with a more forward center of gravity, aimed at reducing spin for high swing speed players. This differs from the SFT model that features more weight near the heel of the head to help correct flight for golfers who want to hit the ball straighter. After taking their time to get the design exactly right, the G410 LST option is here. Our exclusive video has your first look at this new driver, while we have the inside story of this new golf club in our Q & A with PING Director of Engineering Ryan Stokke.

TGW: What is different in the LST model that we haven’t seen in the other G410 drivers?

Ryan Stokke: The profile is totally different. It’s a smaller, more rounded shape. The LST is also shorter front to back and heel to toe. Down by the ball, it sits just a bit more open, or what we call “Tour square”. While the center of gravity is still deep, it is more forward than in the G410 Plus so it does launch a little bit lower.

TGW: What type of golfer is the LST model best fit for?

RS: The G410 LST driver is unique because it will fit more golfers than any other LST model before. First and foremost, it’s for the high swing speed player that generates a lot of spin. But usually with lower spin, you sacrifice some forgiveness, but the G410 preserves stability in a high-MOI design. Thanks to this unique combination of low spin and high MOI, the G410 LST fits a larger audience than in the past.

TGW: With less spin, is there a concern that the LST driver will lose some workability?

RS: There is an element of workability that does come from spin. But this club is workable with how you deliver the head to the golf ball. It also has the movable weight on the back to help customize your shot shape with a neutral setting, draw bias, or fade bias. These features help keep the driver workable while also reducing spin.

TGW: Will we see this driver used by the pros?

RS: The LST model always makes up the largest percentage of our drivers played on Tour. Since this head now fits a larger group of golfers than in the past, we expect it to be popular among professionals. With low spin, stable performance, and a movable weight for shaping your shot, we believe Tour players will like playing this driver.
