PING Glide Forged Pro Wedges Review – Maximum Spin and Control in a Compact Shape

Technology

PING Glide Forged Pro wedges are custom-engineered in a smaller shape and forged from 8620 carbon steel. This type of carbon steel provides an incredibly soft feel and control in the short game for a pleasing experience every time you hit the ball.

PING Glide Forged Pro Wedges Friction Face

PING utilities its Friction Face design in these wedges. It all starts with fully machined, steeper wheel-cut grooves that help maximize spin. Then they use their new Emery face blast for added texture to boost friction and spin at impact. This added friction helps maintain spin in both wet and dry conditions so you get consistent performance, round after round.

PING Glide Forged Pro Wedges grinds

Finally, PING offers the Glide Forged Pro wedges with two special grinds. The new stock grinds are an “S” grind and a “T” grind to allow every golfer to find the right loft and grind combination that fits their angle of attack and common turf conditions. The “S” grind features moderate bounce and a rounded leading edge that works for almost every swing type and course condition. The “T” grind features a highly versatile, narrow sole with about 3° less bounce than the “S” grind. Golfers with a shallow angle of attack, those who play on firmer turf, or want to use their wedge out of bunkers will find the “T” grind helpful.

Performance

We put the PING Glide Forged Pro wedges to the test with the help of Rick Hatfield. Rick is the Master Fitter at TGW and our resident product expert. To test out the full capabilities of these wedges, Rick hit three types of shots: a full shot, a half-swing from about 45 yards away from the geen, and shots right up near the green.

On a full swing, Rick averaged 9,726 rpm of spin, compared to an average of 6,859 rpm on the half-swing. Around the green is where the Glide Forged Pro wedges truly stood out. Rick noticed, even visually, that he was getting more backspin over his usual wedges. On these shots this short, his golf ball was checking and stopping within just a couple feet of landing, allowing him to attack the pin with confidence.

Feel & Sound

During our testing, Rick remarked that the PING Glide Forged Pro wedges feel incredibly soft at impact. They have a pleasing feel consistent with their carbon steel construction that golfers will love. Because of this, the sound also tends to be a bit more muted.
