Launcher UHX irons are a more traditional game-improvement set that blends hollow long irons with cavity back short irons for fine-tuned performance throughout the set. Read about the designs with an exclusive Q & A with the product experts from Cleveland
TGW: So there’s a new version of the Launcher HB design, that must be a popular iron.
Cleveland: It is, it’s our best-selling design. This model is called the Launcher HB Turbo. The demand for this golf club is high. The golfer that hits this iron truly fits into it better than anything else.
TGW: So what is new in the Launcher HB Turbo irons?
Cleveland: Overall, it features a thinner, little bit sleeker design. It’s a little more appealing than the previous design. There is a thinner topline and thinner lines all around. Even the club face is thinner by 5%, making it faster and adding around 4 yards of carry.
TGW: For the golfer that plays this iron, what are the biggest benefits they will see?
Cleveland: The biggest thing is the stability and forgiveness from the high-MOI shape. The more hybrid-like shape drives the center of gravity lower and deeper than your traditional cavity back iron. That lets you hit the ball higher and land softer. Golfers can hold more greens with that type of performance. And higher MOI means a more stable, forgiving iron.
TGW: This year you also have a second iron in the Launcher family?
Cleveland: We created the Launcher UHX irons as a traditional game-improvement set. It looks like a cavity back iron but it’s aggressive where you need it, extremely high performance.
TGW: What are some of the stand-out features on the UHX irons?
Cleveland: The first thing you will notice is the V-shaped sole. This was inspired by our wedge designs. That sole shape maintains speed through the turf and provides better feel and better distance control. The club face has a Variable Face Thickness to maintain ball speed wherever you make contact.
The UHX irons also have the Tour Zip Grooves just like our wedges. These grooves are milled onto the face and provide control and spin where you need it.
TGW: The long irons look a little different than the rest of the set though?
Cleveland: Yes, we saved some weight and the long irons are hollow. The 4 through 7 irons are a powerful, hollow body design to give you distance on longer shots then transitioning into traditional cavity-back short irons.
Cleveland continues to produce high-performance, unique irons for game improvement golfers. Check back with TGW.com soon for your chance to order the new Launcher HB Turbo and Launcher UHX irons.
