Technology
The key technologies in the Callaway X Forged CB irons begin with the multi-material construction. To start with, the body is forged from 1025 mild carbon steel for that super soft forged feel golfers love.
Then Callaway included custom metal-injection molded internal and external tungsten weights. Tungsten weight in the toe helps align the center of gravity right behind the middle of the golf club. The external tungsten weight in the back of the head dials in the precise swingweight while maintaining that central center of gravity.
Callaway then finished off this iron design with their Tour Tuned Face Plate. This design promotes Tour-level spin and distance consistency across the entire club face.
Performance
We tested the Callaway X Forged 21 CB irons with the help of Rick Hatfield. Rick is the head golf pro at Flint Hills National Golf Club and TGW’s resident product expert. Our testing was conducted with a 7-iron which Rick swung at an average of 82.6 mph. His swing produced an impressive average ball speed of 111 mph with his lowest being 110.2 and highest being 112.3. That is incredibly consistent speed on every shot. That produced an average carry distance of 153 yards with the shortest shot at 151 and longest shot of 155. We also noted an average spin of 6,014 rpm with launch and descent angles that will help you hold most greens.
