Technology
Like the rest of the metalwoods in the Epic family, the Callaway Epic Super hybrid utilizes their signature Flash Face technology. Each titanium Flash Face is uniquely designed using advanced artificial intelligence to boost ball speed all across the face with performance fine-tuned to every specific golf club. It is also combined with a titanium body for outstanding speed, distance, and launch. The Triaxial carbon crown saves more weight that is relocated for added forgiveness.
Callaway also included the latest version of their patented Jailbreak technology. The Jailbreak Velocity Blades increase stiffness near the sole for more speed low on the face where golfers most commonly mis-hit their hybrids.
Finally, they loaded the Epic Super hybrid with tungsten weighting for maximum stability and forgiveness. Up to 90 grams of tungsten weight is split in the perimeter of the club head to increase stability and forgiveness as well as produce a hotter, more penetrating ball flight.
To top it all off, Callaway utilized their OptiFit 3 hosel that allows golfers to dial in their preferred ball flight and launch to match their swing.
Performance
We tested the performance of the Callaway Epic Super hybrid with the aid of Rick Hatfield, TGW’s Master Fitter and resident product expert. For this test, Rick used the 4 hybrid with a loft of 21°, hitting it with an average swing speed of 91 mph. His average ball speed as high and efficient at 129.8 mph. Rick’s average launch angle was 13.8° with an appropriate spin rate for this loft at 3,944 rpm. His average carry distance was 200.9 yards which is about 10 yards further than a traditional 4 hybrid for Rick.
