Technology

Bridgestone’s 2022 Tour B golf balls feature the manufacturer’s smart urethane cover. Called REACTIV iQ urethane, it modifies the impact you make with the golf ball by reacting differently depending on the force of contact. It absorbs shock from impact on slower shots to give you control and maximize spin with your wedges. This is the result of the ball staying on the club face longer, softening the feel and increasing spin and control.

Simultaneously, it is highly resilient on faster impact shots for power and distance in the long game. The ball rebounds quicker on tee shots to increase ball speed and maximize distance.

The urethane cover also utilizes Bridgestone seamless cover technology to produce consistent flight and performance. Even the 330 Dual Dimple design enhances aerodynamics and adds distance with a more efficient trajectory and less drag.

Bridgestone’s signature gradational compression core is also used in the Tour B golf balls. This core helps produce higher initial ball speed and less side spin to help you hit the ball farther and straighter.

Performance

To test the Bridgestone Tour B golf balls, we took them to Rick Hatfield, TGW’s Master Fitter and product expert. We tried them all out at the TGW Wichita Pure Performance center which features two premium indoor hitting bays for consistent conditions.

We began with the Tour B X golf ball. In the short game, these golf balls had plenty of spin, control, and stopping power just like you would expect to get from a Tour performance ball. With a 7 iron and a driver, Rick saw a nice high ball flight with plenty of distance, especially for players who swing it faster.

Next, we moved on to the Tour B XS golf ball. With the wedges, this golf ball was an absolute spin machine. As advertised, it offered higher spin rates than its B X counterpart, making it ideal for players who want more control around the greens. When using a 7 iron and a driver, Rick saw excellent distance performance as well. Golfers who swing fast will be rewarded with explosiveness in the long game.

Then it was time to try the Tour B RX golf ball. In the spin test with his wedges, Rick saw similar spin rate averages to that of the Tour B X. Spin and control were appropriate for a golf ball of this type. With a 7 iron and a driver, he produced a more penetrating trajectory with outstanding distance. In fact, this golf ball produced the greatest distance of any of the 4 we tested.

Finally, Rick tested the Tour B RXS golf ball. These golf balls again had the right amount of spin for their segment although did produce a little less spin on average when compared to the rest of the Tour B lineup. Rick’s distance numbers were comparable to the Tour B XS which means you don’t have to sacrifice distance for a great spin model of golf ball.
