How many times have you been stuck between club lengths, struggling to decide between a soft 9-iron and a full pitching wedge to put the final touches on your well deserved green-in-regulation (GIR)? Professionals rely on their caddies to track average club distances and shot-to-shot statistics, but the Arccos App provides everyone with this information directly through a smartphone. Typically, new golf technology addresses swing speed or ball flight. This iOS app, however, helps you improve your game through the power of stats.
Created by co-founders Sal Syed and Ammad Faisal, as well as developed and overseen by Callaway’s open innovation project, Arccos provides golfers with access to a wealth of data, including:
- Shot distance
- Percentage of fairway hits
- Average club distances
- GIR
- Longest shots
- Total shots taken with each club
The technology works by screwing Bluetooth enabled sensors to the top of your club’s grip and pairing each club sensor with the app. The app has yardage and hole layout information from 17,225 courses in the United States, and it uses Google Maps for GPS tracking while you’re on the course. After each shot, the app provides distance information. Within a few rounds it can provide distance averages to help you make a sound decision the next time you’re stuck between a soft 9-iron and a full pitching wedge.
The co-founders refer to the Arccos Apps’ ability to track this information as “club-to-cloud technology.” Arccos is designed to help you “Pair, Play, Review and Refine” your game.
