For golfers looking to take advantage of advanced speed and distance with ultra-low spin performance, Titleist introduces the TSi4 driver. With a classic, compact shape and the lowest, most forward center of gravity out of any TSi driver, this golf club aggressively reduces spin to help maximize distance. Read on to get an in-depth look at the technology included and see how the Titleist TSi4 driver performed in the TGW review team’s exclusive video.
Titleist TSi4 Driver Review by TGW
Technology
The secret to all the speed in the Titleist TSi4 driver begins with the club face. The face is made with ATI 425 aerospace titanium. This unique titanium is stronger, has more elasticity, and is more durable when compared to traditional titanium alloys used in golf club construction. ATI 425 is made in a foundry in Pittsburgh, initially created for use in ballistic armor, and has been used on NASA’s Phoenix Mars Lander. Titleist is the only golf club maker that uses this titanium.
Titleist also made some changes to the shape of the TSi4 driver. It has been re-shaped to reduce drag up to 6% to produce more club head speed, which means more ball speed and more distance. The TSi4 club head also features a classic 430cc pear shape to reduce drag even further.
They also took a more all-encompassing approach to forgiveness in the TSi drivers. Golfers traditionally think of high-MOI designs as heel-to-toe forgiveness. In addition to that, Titleist optimized these drivers from sole-to-crown, boosting forgiveness up to 13% to deliver more speed and more consistent launch and spin up and down the club face.
Finally, the TSi4 driver features the signature Titleist SureFit hosel plus added head weight adjustability. This level of precision fitting creates optimized performance and more consistent ball flight on your tee shots.
Performance
To test the performance of the Titleist TSi4 driver, we paid a visit to Rick Hatfield. Rick is the head golf pro at Flint Hills National Golf Club and TGW’s resident product expert. His average swing speed during this test was right at 100 mph with the 9° driver. Rick’s average ball speed with the TSi4 was quite impressive at 145.8 mph while several individual shots did exceed the 150 mph mark. We noticed that the TSi4 driver truly did its job when reducing spin. Rick’s average spin rate with this golf club was 1,964 rpm. All together, Rick averaged 246 yards of carry distance during this test.
Who It’s For
The Titleist TSi4 driver is made especially for those golfers who struggle with high spin rates off the tee. Players who need to reduce their spin in order to create longer, straighter drives are going to benefit most from the TSi4 technology.
Appearance
The Titleist TSi4 driver looks very clean at address. It has a sleek black color with a small logo on the crown. One thing Titleist added to the TSi drivers is a high-contrast graphic design that helps the center of the club face stand out at address to make alignment easier. This model does have a smaller, more compact look down by the ball than the other TSi drivers which more skilled golfers will love.
Feel & Sound
At impact, the Titleist TSI4 driver feels and sounds substantial. During testing, Rick mentioned this is a feel and sound that better golfers are going to greatly appreciate from this model.
