Titleist TSi1 Golf Clubs Review: Maximum Titleist Performance For Moderate Swing Speeds

Building on the popularity of their TSi2 and TSi3 metalwoods, Titleist introduces a new line made to bring all that performance to moderate swing speed golfers. This is the new Titleist TSi1 metalwoods family. Driven by speed, Titleist created the TSi1 golf clubs to deliver maximum performance for 30% of golfers. That’s right, golfers who swing less than 90 mph, which is considered moderate, make up 30% of all players. TGW has your in-depth look at the technology and exclusive video to show you just how these golf clubs perform.

Technology

All of the Titleist TSi1 golf clubs are made to pack their Speed Project technologies into an ultra-lightweight package. The driver is nearly 40 grams lighter than the standard driver while the fairway woods and hybrids are around 50 grams and 20 grams lighter than their standard counterparts.

The Titleist TSi1 driver features a face made with ATI 425 aerospace titanium. This unique titanium is stronger, has more elasticity, and is more durable when compared to traditional titanium alloys used in golf club construction. ATI 425 is made in a foundry in Pittsburgh, initially created for use in ballistic armor, and has been used on NASA’s Phoenix Mars Lander. Titleist is the only golf club maker that uses this titanium. In addition to the titanium in the face, the driver also has an ultra-thin cast titanium crown that allows weight to be repositioned elsewhere.

Every golf club in the TSi1 lineup features a streamlined shape designed to reduce drag. By making these metalwoods more aerodynamic, golfers can swing faster to increase club head speed and distance without having to swing the club harder. All the clubs in this family also have a deep center of gravity location that optimizes launch and spin to maximize carry distance for moderate swing speeds. Even off-center strikes get a boost in speed with these highly forgiving designs.

Finally, all of the drivers, fairway woods, and hybrids include the Titleist SureFit hosel. This hosel provides 16 independent loft and lie adjustments to dial in your preferred flight.

Performance

We put the Titleist TSi1 golf clubs to the test by taking them to Rick Hatfield. Rick is the head golf pro at Flint Hills National Golf Club and TGW’s resident product expert. He enlisted the help of his friend Gary who fits into the demographic the TSi1 metalwoods are trying to capture.

Our test began with the TSi1 driver. Gary’s average swing speed with the driver was 72 mph with an average ball speed of 107 mph. Using the 12° driver, his average launch angle was 15.5° with an average spin rate of 2,475 rpm to go with that nice, high launch. These numbers are all optimal for that swing speed, producing an average carry distance of 150 yards.

Next, we tested the TSi1 fairway wood. Gary was swinging the 15° 3 wood for this test at an average of 68.8 mph. His average ball speed was 102.2 mph which was very high to go with that swing speed. Gary’s launch angle was a little low for the 3 wood but with the SureFit hosel system that was easily corrected. He generated an average spin rate of 2,713 rpm and averaged 145 yards of carry distance.

Finally, we tested the TSi1 hybrid. For this test, Gary was swinging the 20° 4 hybrid at an average swing speed of 65-67 mph. His average ball speed was an impressive 97.7 mph for that swing speed. Gary had an appropriate average launch angle of 14.6° with a high trajectory, straight ball flight, and average spin rate of 2,763 rpm. Overall, Gary averaged 131 yards of carry distance with the TSi1 hybrid.

Who It’s For

Titleist TSi1 golf clubs are specially made for moderate swing speed golfers. Titleist defines moderate swing speed as less than 90 mph. That demographic makes up 30% of all golfers playing today. These clubs put Titleist’s fastest, farthest technology into the hands of those players to maximize their performance. If you fit in that swing speed range, the TSi1 metalwoods are for you.

Appearance

The Titleist TSi1 driver looks very clean at address. It has a sleek black color with a small logo on the crown. One thing Titleist added to the TSi drivers is a high-contrast graphic design that helps the center of the club face stand out at address to make alignment easier.

The Titleist TSi1 fairway wood and hybrid also feature larger, game-improving looks and shapes. They do look sleek with the black color and inspire confidence down by the ball.

Feel & Sound

The Titleist TSi1 golf clubs feel extremely light in your hand. They are easy to swing and sound great with all of Titleist’s signature technology wrapped up in a lightweight package.
