Titleist TSi Fairways Channel More Speed Than Ever

Titleist is pushing the limits of speed in their new fairway woods with the fourth generation of a signature technology. Building upon the Titleist Speed Project, the new Titleist TSi fairways set out to be the longest and straightest Titleist fairway metals they have made to date. Follow along through TGW’s exclusive review and see what goes into setting these golf clubs apart, how they perform, and who they are fit for.

Titleist TSi Fairway Woods Review

Technology

The Titleist TSi fairways are driven by a fourth-generation Active Recoil Channel. ARC 4.0 has an improved design with shorter channel walls, allowing the face to flex more. That added flexibility translates to higher ball speeds when you hit the golf ball along with higher launch and lower spin which all adds up to greater distance.

“The fourth generation of Active Recoil Channel continues to drive incredible speed performance for us in our fairway designs,” said Stephanie Luttrell, Director, Titleist Metalwood Development. “It is such a key technology in fairway metals because of where the impact happens, low on the face. Typically those strikes from the turf would come off the face much slower, but ARC keeps the face flexing through impact to preserve the speed players need to reach their target.”

Titleist also included their Variable Face Thickness face to work in tandem with the Active Recoil Channel. The varying thickness fine-tunes performance all across the face so you get the best results even when you don’t hit the ball in the exact center of the club face.

Titleist also made some changes to the shape of the TSi fairway woods. They have been re-shaped to reduce drag so they produce more club head speed, which means more ball speed and more distance. The toe of the club also features a softer profile to make the club look more square at address.

While both the TSi2 and the TSi3 fairways include the signature Titleist SureFit hosel, the TSi3 model has some added adjustability. The new SureFit CG track lets golfers adjust the center of gravity and fine-tune ball flight with 3 different positions.

Performance

To test the performance of the new Titleist TSi fairways, we enlisted the help of Rick Hatfield. Rick is the head golf pro at Flint Hills National Golf Club and TGW’s resident product expert. First up, we tested the TSi2 fairway. With an average swing speed of 93 mph, Rick was generating an average ball speed of 139.4 mph. We also noted a very appropriate spin rate for these metrics, right around 3,000 rpm. That all added up to an impressive average carry distance of 238 yards.

With the Titleist TSi3 fairway, Rick was achieving an average ball speed of 139.4 mph with an average sing speed of 94 mph. We also saw an average spin of 3,300 rpm which is appropriate for a 3 wood. Overall, Rick hit the TSi3 an average of 235 yards of carry distance.

Who It’s For

With two different TSi fairways to choose from, Titleist has a fairway option for all types of golfers. The TSi2 fairway is designed for golfers who want maximum speed and accuracy from all over the club face. They are a good match for a player looking for maximum distance and added forgiveness thanks to the deeper, lower center of gravity. The TSi3 fairway is made for golfers who want more control over their shots. Players who make consistent, solid contact and want the ability to control their trajectory and shot shape will benefit from being able to adjust the center of gravity track to produce the type of shots they want.

Appearance

The Titleist TSi2 and TSi3 fairways have a clean look at address. They have a sleek black color with a small logo on the crown. Just like their driver counterpats, Titleist added a high-contrast graphic design to the fairways that helps the center of the club face stand out at address to make alignment easier.

Feel & Sound

The Titleist TSi2 and TSi3 fairways are all-metal golf clubs. The sound and feel is very traditional without the use of carbon materials to dampen any of the vibrations at impact.
