Titleist Tour Speed Golf Ball Review
Technology
The speed in the Titliest Tour Speed golf ball starts in the core. This ball’s inner-most layer is driven by the latest technology from Titleist to produce maximum speed on full swings to give you the most distance where you need it. Then that core is encased with a fast ionomer casing layer to help increase speed and reduce spin in the long game to take your shots even farther.
Titleist uses a TPU cover on the Tour Speed golf ball, providing all the spin and control around the green golfers expect from a urethane golf ball. Finally, the cover is finished off with a 364 quadrilateral dipyramid dimple design that produces penetrating flight for longer distance with tighter dispersion.
Performance
We tested the Titleist Tour Speed golf ball with the help of Rick Hatfield. Rick is the head golf pro at Flint Hills National Golf Club and TGW’s resident product expert. We recorded data with the Tour Speed golf ball using a driver, 7 iron, and a sand wedge to get an idea of how it performs in all aspects of the game.
With the driver, Rick achieved an average ball speed of 150 mph and an average spin of 2,200 rpm. Those numbers added up to an average total distance of 250 yards. Using a 7 iron, we recorded an average ball speed of 113.5 mph and spin of 5,000 rpm, producing an impressive average carry distance of 161 yards. In the long game, Rick did see less spin and a lower, more penetrating ball flight. That trajectory produces a shallower landing angle and more roll out.
Our testing even showed less spin with a full swing in the short game. Using a sand wedge, our test saw an average ball speed of 75 mph and an average spin of just 5,400 rpm. Overall, that produced an average carry distance of 88 yards. Around the green with shorter chip shots, the ball did release and roll out but also felt quite soft off the club face.
Who It’s For
The Titleist Tour Speed golf ball is ideal for golfers looking for more distance. Within the Titleist family, this ball fits in just below the premium offerings like the Pro V1, Pro V1x, and AVX.
