When Titleist set out creating their T-Series irons, it was their goal to provide a set of golf clubs for every type of player on the course. The result is the new T400 irons, which are made to be the most forgiving set of Titleist clubs yet with high launch and impressive distance. TGW put the T400 irons to the test in our in-depth review and exclusive video.
Titleist T400 Irons Review
Technology
The Titleist T400 irons feature a hollow club head construction designed to create an extremely high MOI number. That means the hollow head gives more forgiveness and stability, especially when you don’t hit the ball in the center of the face.
Titleist included up to 100 grams of tungsten weight in the heel and toe of the 5, 6, and 7 irons to help push the center of gravity lower in each iron to help you launch the ball higher. A super-thin forged SUP-10 L-face insert in the 5, 6, and 7 set of irons also produces a higher launch for more distance in the longer irons where you need it. The lower edge of the face wraps around the sole to maintain ball speed even on shots hit low on the face
The T400 irons have a wide body shape that inspires confidence down by the ball. They also created a Split Sole shape that reduces digging and helps the club get in and out of the turf cleanly on every swing.
Who It’s For
The Titleist T400 irons are super distance irons. Anyone who wants to hit the ball farther will benefit from the technology in these Titleist golf clubs. They are also Titleist’s maximum forgiveness offerings. The T400 irons have a larger club head and more offset. Golfers with more moderate swing speeds will enjoy the added distance without having to swing harder.
Performance
We tested the performance of the Titleist T400 irons with Rick Hatfield, head golf pro at Flint Hills National Golf Club and TGW’s resident product expert. In our testing, we compared the T400 irons to the T300 model. With the 7 iron, Rick averaged 171 yards of a carry distance, an increase of 8 yards over the T300 7 iron, making it longer by about a half a club. That jump in distance can be attributed to a 3.5 mph increase in ball speed. When comparing the T400 to the T300, the high launch angle and spin rate were similar.
Appearance
The Titleist T400 irons are oversized Titleist golf clubs. They have the thickest topline and are the thickest from front to back in the T-Series to make it even more forgiving. When looking down at these irons, you do notice a significant amount of offset, which was designed to help straighten out your shots.
Feel & Sound
The first word that comes to mind when describing the feel of the Titleist T400 irons is light. These irons also have the most unique sound out of any golf clubs in the T-Series. It is best described as a high crack when you impact the golf ball. Sound and feel are very solid, letting you know you have made strong contact and sending the ball down the fairway.

I’ve had the T400 for a few weeks now and at 72 playing the best I’ve ever played. The look, feel and control is remarkable with these irons. The distance is great but the accuracy is most important. Thanks John
