Titleist Vokey SM6 Wedges are Changing the Short Game
Bob Vokey is at it again with Titleist. The new SM6 wedges are shipping now and feature advancements never before seen in wedges. A brand new progressive center of gravity design improves contact, promotes proper distance gaps and helps you control distance with greater feel. There’s also new grooves with a face texture to produce more spin. Titleist and Vokey always offer the widest range of sole grinds as well, so these wedges truly fit your game. Here at TGW, we talked to the experts at Titleist to give you the inside scoop on the revolutionary innovation included in the SM6 wedges.

TGW: SM6 wedges are the first to feature progressive CG, how will this revolutionize wedges?
Titleist: Progressive Center of Gravity is visible technology on Vokey Design SM6 wedges that delivers clear performance benefits. The CG is positioned based on loft, to optimize the distance control, trajectory and feel. Traditional wedge design has always dictated the CG location of wedges, SM6 precisely aligns the CG with the impact of each loft, properly aligning SM6 CG with typical irons center of gravity. A lower CG in the low lofts (46°-52°), mid CG in the mid lofts (54°-56°) and high CG in the high lofts (58°-62°). Properly aligned CG produces more consistent distance gaps, and enables a player to control their distance and trajectory more easily, while also producing superior feel.
TGW: The SM6 wedges also include a newly fine-tuned L Grind, how did this new grind come about and how does it play?
Titleist: The L Grind is the lowest bounce offering of the SM6 wedge grinds. This grind features enhanced heel, toe and trailing edge relief, providing maximum versatility best fit for players with a shallow angle of attack playing in firm conditions. The L Grind has been validated by some of the tour’s premier wedge players, including Jordan Spieth and Jimmy Walker.

TGW: How do the new TX4 grooves and face texture improve spin?
Titleist: TX4 Grooves feature two shapes and a new, parallel face texture. The lower lofts (46°-54°) have a narrower, deeper groove, while the higher lofts (56°-62°) feature a wider, shallower groove. These shapes are designed based on loft to optimize ball to groove edge contact and maximize spin. In addition, SM6 wedges have a new parallel face texture. This face texture creates a sharper, more consistent groove edge producing more spin. All SM6 grooves on all clubs are 100% inspected to ensure the highest quality.
TGW: What are Tour players saying about the new wedges?
Titleist: The tour adoption of Vokey Design SM6 wedges has been the best tour seeding effort Bob has ever seen in his career. SM6 wedges became the #1 wedge on the PGA Tour in the first week available, and the number of wedges and players trusting SM6 wedges has continued to grow. Additionally, the European Tour and Web.com have launched SM6 with similar success, with SM6 immediately the most played model on both tours in the first week available.
