TaylorMade Stealth Drivers Review – Meet the New Face of Golf Drivers

TaylorMade’s reputation for furthering driver technology is well known. In 2022, they are turning technology on its face with an all-new club face. These are the brand new TaylorMade Stealth drivers with their revolutionary new 60X Carbon Twist Face. After 20 years, TaylorMade puts the titanium era to bed by using carbon fiber to create their new club face. TGW’s review team brings you an in-depth look at all the new technology as well as exclusive videos that show the Stealth drivers in action.

Technology

The TaylorMade Stealth drivers mark a new era in driver technology by moving away from titanium and using a carbon fiber club face. An all-new 60X Carbon Twist Face is 44% lighter than TaylorMade’s equivalent titanium face. Sixty layers of carbon fiber have been strategically designed to optimize energy transfer to deliver faster ball speeds over a larger area for optimal distance and forgiveness. It is also 11% larger than SIM2 and SIM2 Max drivers and nearly 20% larger than the 2020 SIM driver.

TaylorMade Stealth Driver 60X Carbon Face

The 60X Carbon Twist Face is encased by a polyurethane cover with a revolutionary new nanotexture technology. This unique nanotexture fine-tunes launch and spin to optimize total distance regardless of playing conditions. In addition, Twist Face corrective face angles provide added forgiveness in the areas golfers tend to mis-hit the ball the most.

TaylorMade utilizes two signature driver technologies from past models in the new Stealth drivers: the Asymmetric Inertia Generator and the Thru-Slot Speed Pocket. The Inertia Generator remains the source of refined aerodynamics, resulting in an incredibly fast head shape that aids in speed generation on the downswing for golfers at every level. TaylorMade’s most flexible Speed Pocket design is engineered to maximize ball speeds and produce additional forgiveness on low face strikes.

The standard TaylorMade Stealth driver model features a high-MOI head design. The weight savings of the 60x Carbon Twist Face allows more weight to be positioned low and deep in the head, adding 15% more MOI when compared to the Stealth Plus model.

TaylorMade Stealth Plus Driver weight track

The TaylorMade Stealth PLUS driver does something a little different with that weight savings. This model features a sliding weight track. Weight savings from the 60x Carbon Twist Face allows for a 10g sliding weight designed to help golfers control shot shape by shifting mass on the sole to create the desired ball flight.

Finally, those weight savings take on another form in the TaylorMade Stealth HD (High Draw) driver. By utilizing the weight savings from the 60X Carbon Twist Face and shifting the Inertia Generator closer to the heel, TaylorMade is able to maintain draw bias while creating the highest MOI in the Stealth family of drivers.

Performance

We tested the TaylorMade Stealth lineup of drivers with the help of Rick Hatfield. Rick is TGW’s Master Fitter and our resident product expert. Our golf driver testing was conducted indoors at the TGW Pure Performance Center using Foresight Sports launch monitors.

First, Rick tested the core model of the TaylorMade Stealth driver with a 9° loft. Rick’s average swing speed was 103.5 mph whereas his usual driver swing speed is right around 100 mph. His average ball speed with this driver was 148 mph with an average launch angle of 13° and low spin at an average of 2,043 rpm. Rick’s average carry distance with this driver was 254 yards.

Next, he tested the TaylorMade Stealth PLUS driver also with a 9° loft. Rick’s average swing speed was 102 mph with this model. His average ball speed was 146 mph with an average launch angle of 13° and low spin performance at an average of 2,200 rpm. With those launch conditions in the optimal range, Rick averaged 253 yards of carry distance with this driver.

Finally, Rick tested the TaylorMade Stealth HD driver with a 9° loft. His average swing speed with this model was 103 mph, producing an average ball speed of 148 mph. Rick’s average launch angle was 13° while also achieving a low spin rate with an average of 2,100 rpm. His average carry distance was 255 yards while also seeing an average dispersion of 27 yards left of center so this club is loaded with slice correction off the tee.

Who It’s For

TaylorMade Stealth Driver toe

The TaylorMade Stealth driver model is designed for high-MOI performance and is the best fit for players looking to optimize distance and forgiveness. It also offers a light amount of draw bias for the golfer who prefers to have a little bit of that built-in without going into a draw-specific model.

The TaylorMade Stealth PLUS driver is designed for players who want to optimize their distance and forgiveness while also having more control over their shot shape and trajectory. A sliding weight track gives players more ability to fine-tune their driver performance, a feature usually preferred by more skilled players who want that workability off the tee.

The TaylorMade Stealth HD driver is made for golfers who want to reduce a slice and promote a draw. It is made for high launch and mid-spin with maximum draw bias. Players who want a highly forgiving golf club off the tee will fit into the HD model.

Appearance

TaylorMade Stealth Driver at address

The TaylorMade Stealth drivers feature a sleek look with an all-black crown that looks powerful when set down by the golf ball. One thing that stands out in the appearance of these TaylorMade drivers is the red accents. That includes the red club face. TaylorMade’s carbon fiber face and nanotexture cover are red and look different than any driver out there today.

Feel & Sound

The TaylorMade Stealth drivers sound and feel explosive when you hit the golf ball. During testing, Rick expected that the carbon fiber face may sound and feel a little muted when compared to a standard titanium driver face. We discovered that was not the case at all and the sound and feel performance will make you think you are not hitting a carbon fiber face at all.

Thanks for your review of the TM Stealth + driver. I have one and have played 3 rounds with it. Believe I have gained, on average, between 12-18 yards off the tee with this club. I am age 72 and carry a 6.2 HC index.
