TaylorMade is here to expand the Stealth family of golf clubs with a versatile new option, the Stealth DHY iron. This golf club is not a true hybrid or a driving iron, but something in between. DHY stands for driving hybrid. TaylorMade’s goal was to bring the benefits of a driving iron to a more versatile shape that looks a little bit more like a rescue. Go inside this new design with TGW’s review.
TaylorMade Stealth DHY Iron Review by TGW
Technology
The TaylorMade Stealth DHY has much of the same technology as their traditional driving iron. This hybrid iron is made with a slightly wider hollow body that has a low and back center of gravity. That configuration generates a higher launch and trajectory with great peak height and soft landings. TaylorMade also put on their forged 4140 steel face that is incredibly lightweight, thin, and strong for explosive speed. That forged face also features Inverted Cone Technology to enhance the sweet spot, protect ball speed all across the face, and promote straighter shots.
These golf clubs feature a hollow body that is injected with TaylorMade’s signature SpeedFoam AIR. The newly engineered SpeedFoam Air is 69% lighter than the previous version, saving up to 3.5 grams of weight to further optimize the mass for an even better launch. The new formula also provides a sweet sound and solid feel when paired with the fast, flexible face.
They also included their Thru Slot Speed Pocket on the sole of the DHY to maximize speed and forgiveness, especially on shots hit low on the face.
Performance
We tested the performance of the TaylorMade Stealth DHY iron with the help of Rick Hatfield at the TGW Wichita Pure Performance Center. Rick is TGW’s Master Fitter and product expert.
During this test, Rick’s average swing speed was 89.6 mph which helped produce an average ball speed of 128 mph which is the explosive performance you want in a golf club like this. The overall trajectory Rick saw with the Stealth DHY was driver-like. His average spin rate was 3,286 rpm with an average launch angle of 13.8°. Overall, he averaged 198 yards of carry distance with the DHY model.
Who It’s For
TaylorMade’s Stealth DHY is a versatile golf club option in the long game for players of all ability levels. Everyone from the best players all the way to amateurs with moderate swing speeds will benefit from the power and versatility of this hybrid iron. It is easy to launch from the fairway, powerful enough to use off the tee, and shaped to get you out of the rough. Every golfer can benefit from this design on many different types of shots.
Appearance
The TaylorMade Stealth DHY hybrid iron features a versatile shape that is not as thin as a driving iron but not as wide as a traditional hybrid. Its wide, cambered sole is designed to make launch easy from all types of lies. It looks clean at address without the look of a super-thin long iron.
Feel & Sound
The TaylorMade Stealth DHY iron feels and sounds powerful and solid. SpeedFoam AIR injected into the head fine-tunes sound and feel at impact for a pleasing experience. The forged club face also feels great and provides feedback on where you made contact.
