Technology
Within the TaylorMade Spider GT family of putters, there are 4 unique designs: GT, GT RollBack, GT NotchBack, and GT SplitBack.
The GT and RollBack models feature a multi-material construction. A top plate made from 6061 aluminum eliminates excess weight in the middle of the putter and includes a short sightline. Steel side weights create a heavy frame with added perimeter weighting for extreme forgiveness and stability.
The NotchBack putters are mid-mallets with a multi-material construction but in a slightly different way. A lightweight 6061 aluminum body combines with heavy dual tungsten weights on the outside of the head for stability, forgiveness, and improved distance control.
The SplitBack model features an all-stainless steel club head with a classic winged shape. The stainless steel club head features enhanced perimeter weighting for stability and distance control with a white cavity back to increase contrast for improved alignment.
Every Spider GT putter includes TaylorMade’s signature PureRoll2 face insert. The new, firmer co-molded PureRoll2 Insert is made of TPU urethane with silver aluminum beams at a 45° angle designed to improve topspin all across the face.
Performance
We tested the TaylorMade Spider GT putters with the help of Rick Hatfield. Rick is the Master Fitter and TGW and our resident product expert. Our putter testing was conducted indoors at the TGW Wichita Pure Performance Center equipped with ForeSight sports launch monitors.
Right away, Rick noted the great roll these putters produced. The PureRoll2 Insert helped the ball get started rolling forward to keep it on his intended target for greater accuracy. These putters also proved to be incredibly stable where Rick could hit these putters anywhere and produce an accurate stroke.
Who It’s For
The TaylorMade Spider GT putters are designed for golfers who want maximum forgiveness in a contemporary design. Players who place a premium on forgiveness and want the true roll that keeps their putts on their intended target line will benefit most from these golf clubs. With 4 different shapes, a variety of finishes, and hosels to fit every putting stroke type, there is a Spider GT putter for every golfer.
Appearance
TaylorMade Spider GT putters come in 4 unique shapes: the GT with a flat-capped top like a traditional mallet, the GT RollBack with a domed, sloped top cap, the GT NotchBack with a traditional mid-mallet shape and cavity, and the GT SplitBack with a fanged or winged shape. They also come in black, red, and silver finishes to match any preference.
Feel & Sound
The TaylorMade Spider GT putters feel and sound extremely responsive thanks to the PureRoll2 face insert. This helps the putter feel softer while offering true forward roll and the feedback you need to know where on the club face you made impact with the golf ball.
