TaylorMade brings another new, versatile option to the SIM family of golf clubs with the SIM DHY. Now it is not a true hybrid or a driving iron. DHY stands for driving hybrid. TaylorMade’s goal was to bring the benefits of a driving iron to a more versatile shape that looks a little bit more like a rescue. Go inside this new design with TGW’s exclusive review.
TaylorMade SIM DHY Hybrid Iron Review
Technology
The TaylorMade SIM DHY has much of the same technology as its UDI brethren. This hybrid iron is made with a slightly wider hollow body that has a low and back center of gravity. That configuration generates higher launch and trajectory with great peak height and soft landings. TaylorMade also put on their forged C300 steel face that is incredibly lightweight, thin, and strong for explosive speed. That forged face also features Inverted Cone Technology to enhance the sweet spot, protect ball speed all across the face, and promote straighter shots.
TaylorMade then filled the club head of the SIM DHY with their SpeedFoam injection, an ultra-light urethane foam that brings the club face up to the legal limits of speed while fine-tuning sound and feel at impact. That’s not the only signature TaylorMade technology included here. They also included their Thru Slot Speed Pocket on the sole of the DHY to maximize speed and forgiveness, especially on shots hit low on the face.
Who It’s For
TaylorMade’s SIM DHY is a versatile golf club for players of all ability levels. Everyone from the best players all the way to amateurs with moderate swing speeds will benefit from the power and versatility in this hybrid iron. It is easy to launch from the fairway, powerful enough to use off the tee, and shaped to get you out of the rough. Every golfer can benefit from this design on many different types of shots
Appearance
The TaylorMade SIM DHY hybrid iron features a versatile shape that is not as thin as a driving iron but not as wide as a traditional hybrid. Its wide, playable sole is designed to make launch easy from all types of lies. It looks clean at address without the look of a super-thin long iron.
Feel & Sound
The TaylorMade SIM DHY feels and sounds powerful and solid. SpeedFoam injected into the head fine-tunes sound and feel at impact for a pleasing experience. The forged club face also feels great and provides feedback on where you made contact.

To blend the 5 dhy with 790 irons, the 25 loft of the dhy ( vs 23.5 loft of the 790 5 iron) is only 1.5 degrees stronger than the 790 6 iron. Not much of a loft gap. Is there a reason for the small difference in loft?
The reason the loft gaps are different there is because the DHY is designed to fit into the SIM family. The loft gaps in the SIM irons are different than they are in the P790 irons.
