Technology

The TaylorMade SIM2 T.I. fairway wood features a multi-material construction loaded with titanium for more powerful performance. Ultra-strong ZATECH titanium makes up the club face which features Twist Face corrective face angles to provide added forgiveness in the areas golfers tend to mis-hit the ball the most. The heavy 80-gram V-Steel sole helps make this club more forgiving while improving versatility and turf interaction. A titanium body, carbon crown, and steel sole all create a highly forgiving fairway wood with high launch and low spin.

TaylorMade’s SIM2 Max fairway wood features a similar multi-material construction with a few changes. These fairways include the carbon crown and V-Steel sole but feature a steel body and face instead of titanium. The club face is made from super-strong C300 steel to create a faster club face for explosive distance. It also features Twist Face curvature to boost forgiveness. The SIM2 Max version is made with a larger club head for more forgiveness, higher launch, and explosive distance.

The TaylorMade SIM2 Max-D fairway wood includes the same technology as the SIM2 Max with some different weighting. A strategically-placed weight pad on the heel of the club helps create more draw bias for golfers who need to straighten out a slice.

TaylorMade also included their signature Thru-Slot Speed Pocket in the SIM2 T.I., SIM2 Max, and SIM2 Max-D golf clubs. This design is more flexible than ever to help maximize ball speed and provide more forgiveness on shots hit low on the club face.

Performance

We tested the TaylorMade SIM2 fairway wood lineup with the help of Rick Hatfield, head golf pro at Flint Hills National Golf Club and TGW’s resident product expert. Using the 3 wood, Rick’s average swing speed was 94.2 mph. His average ball speed was impressive at 137 mph. This golf club performed with high launch at 16° and low spin at an average of 2,460 rpm. Overall, Rick’s average carry with the SIM2 fairway wood was 228 yards.

Who It’s For

The TaylorMade SIM2 T.I. fairway wood is the players’ model in the SIM2 lineup. The Tour-inspired shape and heavier titanium weighting help produce the type of performance more skilled golfers prefer: explosive distance, high launch, and low spin to match their faster swing speeds.

The TaylorMade SIM2 Max fairway wood is the game improvement option in the family. Players who are looking for maximum forgiveness to go along with easy, high launch and powerful distance will benefit most from the Max model.

The TaylorMade SIM2 Max-D fairway wood is even more forgiving, specifically for golfers who need to correct a slice. Added weight in the heel makes it easier to get the club face closed for those golfers who struggle with slices.

Appearance

TaylorMade SIM2 fairway woods feature many of the same visual cues as the driver to create fast, sleek-looking golf clubs. The contrasting black of the carbon fiber crown and face offset with white accents helps frame the ball and these drivers sit square at address.

Feel & Sound

The sound of the TaylorMade SIM2 fairway woods is a little more muted thanks to the carbon crown. However they do sound more metallic than their driver counterparts thanks to the metal on the sole. All of these fairway woods feel strong and solid as well, very similar to the drivers in the SIM2 family.
