Technology

TaylorMade Hi-Toe 3 Wedge milled sole

The TaylorMade Hi-Toe 3 wedge is made from soft 8620 carbon steel for the incredible feel that golfers love around the greens. Then they add the Milled Grind sole onto each one. By machining the sole of the club, TaylorMade ensures consistency and precision in every wedge they make to tolerances that are hard for a human to replicate.

TaylorMade Hi-Toe 3 Wedge grooves

Our TaylorMade Hi-Toe Wedge review showed superior control and spin thanks to expert manufacturing of the grooves. The grooves on the Hi-Toe 3 wedge are deeper and narrower with a sharper radius designed to provide maximum spin. Laser etching between the grooves creates a rougher surface for added control. Higher lofted wedges (56°-62°) have full-face scoring lines to deliver spin and control on shots where you need to open the face. Milled raw micro-ribs between the grooves add even more texture to the club face for added spin and control.

Height in the toe area delivers optimal performance for launch. The Hi-Toe design is taller in the toe area and is engineered to create better spin and launch while also making it easier to hit when you open the club face.

To get the most out of the technological innovations from the TaylorMade Hi-Toe 3 Wedge, it’s important to select the appropriate bounce options for your game. TaylorMade makes the Hi-Toe 3 wedge with 3 bounce options. The standard bounce fits the majority of golfers and swing types as well as those who play on medium turf conditions. The low bounce option is best for golfers who take less of a divot with their swing, more of a sweeping type of swing, or play on firm turf conditions. Lastly, the high bounce option fits players with a steeper angle of attack who take deeper divots or those who play on softer turf.

Finally, an added weight pad in the toe area helps move the center of gravity closer to the middle of the face to optimize launch and spin while providing a more premium, softer feel.

Performance

We tested the TaylorMade Hi-Toe 3 wedges with the help of Rick Hatfield. Rick is TGW’s Master Fitter and resident product expert. He was impressed with the consistent turf interaction provided by the milled grind sole. Rick had no problems creating every type of shot he needed around the green, regardless of the type of lie. He also noted that this led to consistent distance control, allowing him to hit the shot he needed and knowing the distance he would get with each swing.

Who It’s For

TaylorMade Hi-Toe 3 wedges are a good fit for golfers who like to get creative in the short game. Players who like to manipulate the club around the greens, open the face, and hit a large variety of shots with their wedges will benefit most from this design with its consistent turf interaction and repeatable performance.

Appearance

TaylorMade Hi-Toe 3 Wedge toe

The TaylorMade Hi-Toe 3 wedges are made with TaylorMade’s signature copper finish. The face and grooves feature an aggressive look with full-face scoring lines in the higher lofts and raised micro-ribs between the grooves. The thinner topline inspires confidence and versatility while the high toe shape allows you to open the face with confidence, knowing you cannot mis-hit these wedges.

Feel & Sound

During our testing, Rick called out the incredibly soft feel of the Hi-Toe 3 wedge. He found the carbon steel construction pleasing with the feel and feedback you would expect in a high-quality wedge such as this.
