Technology

TaylorMade’s 2022 edition for the Tour Response golf ball features a new Tour Flight dimple pattern. The 322-dimple Tour Flight dimple pattern unlocks next-level aerodynamics while promoting maximum carry distance. This Tour-proven technology, which is included in the TP5 and TP5x golf balls, has been added to the Tour Response model for the first time.

These golf balls are designed to respond to your game with a 100% urethane cover. Urethane adds greenside spin and improves feel when compared to an ionomer cover. The soft material helps wedge grooves better grip the ball on shots into the green while maintaining wind shear resistance and greater durability.

The 3-piece construction of the newest Tour Response was designed to maximize energy transfer and produce fast ball speeds. A new Speedmantle layer with HFM surrounds the low compression core, helping the ball explode off the face at impact. The Hi-Spring Core is made to push the limits of ball speed in a soft-feeling golf ball. The 2022 Tour Response golf ball has a TaylorMade compression rating of 70.

Performance

We tested the TaylorMade 2022 Tour Response golf ball with the help of Rick Hatfield. Rick is the Master Fitter and TGW and our resident product expert. Our golf ball testing was conducted indoors at the TGW Wichita Pure Performance Center equipped with ForeSight sports launch monitors. Rick’s golf ball test includes 4 types of shots: a half-wedge and a full wedge shot measured for spin rates and a 7-iron and driver for data on spin, distance, launch, and more.

First, Rick tested the wedge shots. He started with the half-wedge shot. This is a 45-yard shot and he used a 56° wedge. At an average of 6,789 rpm, the Tour Response had more than adequate spin up close to the green. With the full wedge, about an 85-yard shot, Rick’s average spin rate was 9.639 rpm which is great for holding greens in the short game.

With the 7-iron, Rick averaged 112 mph of ball speed and a medium launch angle at an average of 18°. His average spin was 4,200 rpm, moderate to slightly lower for a 7-iron, and an average carry distance of 166 yards. Finally, he tested the driver with exceptional results. Rick’s average ball speed was 147 mph with a medium launch angle of 14.2°. He averaged a moderate to low spin rate of 2,300 rpm with a solid carry distance of 257 yards.
