TaylorMade 2021 P790 Irons Review by TGW
Technology
TaylorMade’s newly engineered SpeedFoam Air is 69% lighter than the previous version, saving up to 3.5 grams of weight to further optimize the mass for an even better launch. The new formula also provides a sweet sound and solid feel when paired with the faster, thinner, more flexible club face.
The 2021 P790 irons an incredibly thin club head made from 8620 carbon steel, allowing for a super-low center of gravity and offering soft yet solid feel. A forged 4141 steel L-face is just 1.65mm thick for extreme flexibility, fast ball speeds, and distance with a premium forged feel.
That new thinner body construction allows TaylorMade to move more weight around to make these irons more stable and forgiving. They placed 31 grams of tungsten in the toe to create a massive amount of stability and forgiveness that is rarely, if ever, seen in a player’s iron package.
Finally, TaylorMade included their signature thru-slot Speed Pocket on the sole. This unique cut through the sole increases the flexibility of the club face while maintaining speed and distance, especially on shots hit low on the face.
