Golf offers us an outstanding way to be active in nature and enjoy the great outdoors. So it makes sense that golf apparel brands are ramping up their efforts to allow us to enjoy it even longer. As we look to the future, these companies have their sights set on helping the environment for many years to come through initiatives that reduce waste and turn it into something golfers can enjoy.
Adidas Golf Apparel
adidas has long worked as a founding member of Parley for the Oceans. With Parley, adidas transforms plastic waste found in the ocean into premium golf apparel and footwear. Waste is collected from islands, beaches, coastal communities, and shorelines so it does not live in the ocean. adidas uses this material to create their PRIMEBLUE performance fabric. With PRIMEBLUE, the plastic waste is broken down and turned into a high-performance polyester yarn. They use this recycled polyester in golf polos, golf shorts, hats, and golf shoes. Anywhere traditional polyester is found, PRIMEBLUE can take its place to help fight waste.

adidas has another sustainable fabric called PRIMEGREEN. This recycled material is found in a wide variety of golf apparel. PRIMEGREEN is made completely from non-virgin plastic. Recycled plastic is turned into polyester yarn. Since polyester is an incredibly popular performance fabric found on the golf course, adidas makes a big difference in using recycled materials. In fact, as of 2020, more than 50% of all polyester used in adidas products is made from recycled plastic.

Our commitment to eliminating the use of virgin polyester in our products by 2024 helps us get one step closer to being a more circular company,” Carnes said.
Puma Golf Apparel
Puma Golf has teamed up with an organization called The First Mile to transform plastic bottles into things golfers will love. Using recycled plastic to make things like golf polos, pullovers, and even hats helps Puma reduce waste and become more sustainable, helping the environment for the future. One golf shirt takes about 3 recycled plastic bottles to make. They also used recycled plastic in their polyester. This recycled polyester can be found throughout the Puma brand as they ramp up use, planning to be at 75% recycled polyester use by the year 2025. Using plastics to make this material not only cleans up non-biodegradable materials but it also produces fewer greenhouse gasses to manufacture their products.
NIKE Golf Apparel
NIKE’s lineup of Victory golf polos has long been a staple on the golf course. These shirts have received a sustainable upgrade in their newest models. NIKE is now using 100% recycled polyester to create their signature line of golf shirts. By using recycled plastic to create its polyester material, NIKE is doing its part to reduce waste and offer long-term, sustainable options for the environment that golfers can feel good about.
Greg Norman Golf Apparel
The Greg Norman golf apparel brand recently introduced a collection of golf polos made with recycled materials. Their new ML75 Crab polo, Freedom Micro Pique polo, and Freedom Micro Pique Stripe polo all feature polyester made from recycled plastic. These golf shirts can be made responsibly in a manner that emits fewer greenhouse gasses by using plastic waste instead of manufacturing new polyester yarns.
