Srixon ZX7 Irons Review
Technology
Srixon ZX7 irons feature a Tour Cavity design, made to give golfers the ideal blend of power, forgiveness, and control. This shape on the back of the club head shifts some weight out the perimeter of the head to offer more stability while also concentrating weight right behind the sweet spot. That design provides forgiveness on off-center strikes, super soft feel, and maximum workability.
The body of the ZX7 irons is forged from a single piece of 1020 carbon steel. That material provides the soft feel that golfers love. Srixon included high-density tungsten weight in the toe of the long and mid irons to help maximize forgiveness and stability, keeping speed and spin consistent on off-center strikes.
Srixon included their signature Tour V.T. sole design in the ZX7 irons as well. This shape allows the club to get in and out of the turf easily for great feel and control. There are also notches in the heel and toe of the sole that allows players to work their shots without losing any forgiveness.
Finally, Srixon optimized the ZX5 irons through the set with progressive grooves. Consistency is key to make sure your distance and spin performance are where they need to be. The 3-iron through 7-iron has wider grooves that are ideal for the distance you need. The 8-iron through pitching wedge has deeper, narrower grooves that cut through grass and debris on approach shots for maximum spin where you need it.
Performance
For our performance test of the Srixon ZX7 irons, we called upon the help of Rick Hatfield, head golf pro at Flint Hills National Golf Club and TGW’s resident product expert. He used the 7-iron with an average swing speed of 82.3 mph. Rick’s average ball speed with the ZX7 was 110.5 mph with a spin rate that averaged 5,088 rpm which is appropriate for a 7-iron. With a slightly lower launch than its ZX5 brethren, Rick’s average carry distance with the ZX7 was 156.6 yards.
Who It’s For
Srixon ZX7 irons are the players’ iron option in the ZX lineup. With their thinner, more compact overall shape, added control, and one-piece forged body and face, they are made for more skilled golfers. These golf clubs combine Srixon’s speed-enhancing technology with a compact shape that better golfers love to bring them a total performance iron.
Appearance
The Srixon ZX7 irons are compact blade irons. They feature a thin topline, narrow sole, and minimal offset. These golf clubs have a traditional look at address with the compact shape and Tour Cavity that does not stick far off the back of the club.
Feel & Sound
The feel and sound of the Srixon ZX7 irons are solid. Both are consistent with what golfers expect from a forged 1020 carbon steel iron and players will be pleased with their performance in these areas.
