Technology
The Srixon Z-Star Diamond golf ball utilizes the latest FastLayer core. While convention says that firmer cores are faster while softer cores are slower but firmer cores feel harsher at impact, that is not so with the FastLayer core. This unique design is soft in the center and gradually becomes firmer around the edges, allowing Srixon to provide the speed of a firmer core with the feel of a softer core so you never have to compromise.
Srixon uses a premium urethane cover for pinpoint control around the greens. The cover on the Z-Star Diamond golf ball is 0.6mm thick for maximum spin and control. It also features Srixon’s signature Spin Skin coating with SeRM. This durable coating digs deep into the grooves of your wedges and irons to dramatically increase spin for more control and stopping power on pitches and chips. SeRM makes the cover more malleable, allowing the molecules to slide and stretch on impact without breaking, giving your clubs more bite.
Finally, Srixon included their newest 338 Speed Dimple Pattern. Deeper dimples punch through the air for a more penetrating launch, reducing drag and increasing lift to boost overall distance and produce straighter flight, even in the toughest wind.
Performance
We tested the performance of the Srixon Z-Star Diamond golf ball with the help of Rick Hatfield. Rick is TGW’s Master Fitter and product expert. Testing was conducted indoors at the Wichita Pure Performance Center using Foresight Sports launch monitors. Rick hit the Triad golf balls with 4 types of shots: a half wedge, a full wedge, a 7 iron, and a driver.
Starting with a 56° wedge, we measured a 45-yard half wedge shot and an 85-yard full wedge shot. On the half wedge shot, Rick averaged 7,349 rpm which is an excellent spin rate up close to the green. The full swing also produced outstanding spin with an average of 9,759 rpm. Using a 7 iron, Rick recorded a medium launch to go with a moderate spin rate with an average of 5,207 rpm. His average carry distance was 165 yards. Finally with the driver, Rick also produced a medium launch and moderate spin at an average of 2,375 rpm with an average carry distance at 255 yards.
Who It’s For
