Srixon Q-Star 6 Golf Balls Review
Technology
The core of a golf ball is like the engine that powers a car. When a golf ball is formulated for more distance, it all starts with the core. Srixon’s Q-Star 6 golf ball features a newly-formulated FastLayer Core. Their new formulation brings the compression of the Q-Star 6 down to 72, five points lower than previous versions. The result is an exceptional feel and more speed for greater distance.
The ionomer cover on the Q-Star 6 golf balls features Srixon’s signature Spin Skin coating with SeRM. This durable coating digs deep into the grooves of your wedges and irons to dramatically increase spin for more control and stopping power on pitches and chips. SeRM makes the cover more malleable, allowing the molecules to slide and stretch on impact without breaking, giving your clubs more bite.
Finally, for generation 6, Srixon utilizes their 338 Speed Dimple Pattern. New, deeper dimples punch through the air for a more penetrating launch, reducing drag and increasing lift to boost overall distance and produce straighter flight, even in the toughest wind.
Performance
We tested the Srixon Q-Star 6 golf ball with the help of Rick Hatfield. Rick is TGW’s Master Fitter and product expert. Testing was conducted indoors at the Wichita Pure Performance Center using Foresight Sports launch monitors. Rick hit the Q-Star 6 golf balls with 4 types of shots: a half wedge, a full wedge, a 7 iron, and a driver.
For the half wedge shot, Rick was using a 56° wedge while trying to hit that 45-50 yard shot to test the spin conditions of the Q-Star. His average spin rate for this shot was 6,819 pm which is ample spin for a shot like this. With the full wedge shot, again using a 56° but now trying to a bit longer yardage, Rick averaged 9,374 rpm which was on the high end for a shot like this so these golf balls help produce plenty of spin to hold a green.
With the 7 iron and driver, Rick was looking to measure both spin and distance performance. The 7 iron produced an average of4,760 rpm of spin with a high trajectory and average carry distance of 169 yards. With the driver, Rick achieved a slightly higher launch and trajectory along with low spin, which you want in the long game, at an average of 2,400 rpm. His average carry distance was 251 yards.
Who It’s For
The Srixon Q-Star 6 golf ball is best fit for the game improvement golfer. Players looking for added distance and forgiveness will benefit the most from this design. It is a two-piece construction, common among the distance golf ball category, and features softer compression to help make launch easier.
