Ryder Cup Recap

The sun has set on the 44th Ryder Cup matches from Rome, Italy. For the 15th time overall and 8th time in the last 11 competitions, Team Europe has captured the most prestigious team championship in the game of golf! After a roaring start, the European side held off Team USA’s comeback attempt during the Sunday singles matches to win by a final tally of 16.5 to 11.5.

The Results

Team Europe put a great emphasis on getting out to a fast start and that is exactly what they accomplished. They utilized a large early lead to their advantage, keeping Team USA at arm’s length throughout the weekend. The US squad did have a better showing Sunday during the singles matches, but that big lead built up over Friday and Saturday proved too much to overcome.

Friday

The action kicked off with the four-ball and foursomes matches with a dominating performance from Team Europe right off the bat. The European side flexed all their muscles early by sweeping the morning foursome matches for a 4-0 lead right off the bat. Team USA didn’t fare much better in the afternoon four-ball matches with 3 ending in draw and the 4th being another European win. By the end of Day 1, Team Europe had a 6.5 to 1.5 advantage and it was the first day in Ryder Cup history where the US team did not record a single victory.

Saturday

Day 2 witnessed a pair of 3-1 victories, one for each team, to keep the overall in lead in place for Team Europe. The morning foursome matches were again dominated by Europe, winning 3 of the 4 available points while the USA team did finally win their first match out of the weekend. Team USA flipped the script in the afternoon session, winning 3 of the 4 four-ball matches. The overall lead after two days stood at 10.5-5.5 in favor of the Europeans.

Sunday

The grand finale unfolded on Day 3, with the singles matches determining the destiny of the coveted Ryder Cup. The atmosphere was electric as golf’s best faced off one-on-one. At the end of the day, the singles matches stood at an even split with each team winning 6 of the 12 contests. That was more than enough for Team Europe to claim the 2023 Ryder Cup by a final tally of 16.5-11.5. After an evenly played Saturday and Sunday, it was the fast start and dominating performance on day 1 that proved to be the difference in leading Team Europe to their 15th win in the competition.

The 2023 Ryder Cup will be remembered for years to come as a captivating spectacle of golf at its finest, with Europe emerging as the victorious team in this thrilling chapter of the Ryder Cup history. Golf fans around the world were treated to a show they won’t soon forget!
