PING Glide 4.0 Wedges Review by TGW
Technology
PING Glide 4.0 wedges feature a unique multi-material construction. It all starts with an 8620 carbon steel body for that soft feel golfers love. A larger, softer elastomer Custom Tuning Port insert helps improve that feel while also providing a boost to responsiveness. The additional volume of the custom tuning port allows for 36% more face contact.
The club face and grooves are precision-milled for long-lasting spin and precise control that golfers need in their short game. A new Emery face blast adds more texture to the hitting surface, creating higher friction and more interaction between the club and ball for more spin and lower launch. Lower-lofted wedges (46° – 52°) feature a 20° sidewall milled to maximize groove volume while higher lofted wedges (54° – 60°) are milled with a 28° sidewall and tighter radius for more spin and precision on short shots and from the bunker.
Glide 4.0 wedges are also available with 4 grind options to match your angle of attack and typical turf conditions to improve performance and versatility. The S (standard sole) grind features ample bounce and a rounded leading edge with trailing edge and heel relief, best fit for most swing types and turf conditions. The W (wide sole) grind features a traditional full sole design with a rounded leading edge making it the most forgiving through the turf, best fit for square face and bunker shots. The T (thin sole) grind features a higher leading edge bounce, a half-moon sole shape, and an increased center bounce width. The Eye2 design features a high toe and improved leading edge shape along with a dished sole and tapered hosel to help improve bunker performance.
Performance
We tested the PING Glide 4.0 wedges with the help of Rick Hatfield. Rick is TGW’s Master Fitter and product expert. Testing was conducted outdoors at Flint Hills National Golf Club to test them in a variety of lies.
When hitting the Glide 4.0 wedges, Rick described them as incredibly versatile. He found that every grind had that versatility when helping create the shot you needed for every situation. The Eye2 model performed particularly well when hitting out of a bunker. On a half-wedge shot from around 35 yards, Rick was averaging 7,474 rpm, which is plenty of stopping power for the short game.
Who It’s For
PING’s Glide 4.0 wedges feature a complete range of loft, grind, and bounce options to fit every golfer. With 3 grinds to choose from, everyone can find a Glide 4.0 wedge to fit their swing and match their iron set and become more consistent in their short game. Golfers who love softer feeling wedges will enjoy this model with its carbon steel construction.
Appearance
The PING Glide 4.0 setup appeals to the eye of the traditionalist with a rounded, compact design. Advancements to the leading edge and hosel transition aid in creating this more compact shape. These wedges also feature the traditional finish that golfers are accustomed to with the PING Glide family.

PING Glide 4.0 wedges feature a soft, responsive feel and sound. Thanks to the multi-material construction consisting of an 8620 carbon steel body and larger CTP insert, these wedges feel and sound great with all the control golfers need in the short game.
