The new PING G425 fairway woods are made for explosive distance and incredible consistency that PING calls Spinsistency. Their goal was to create more consistent performance all across the club face to make sure your shots make it all the way to your target without coming up short. See them in action in our exclusive video and learn all about the new technology in TGW’s review.
PING G425 Fairway Woods Review by TGW
Technology
PING G425 fairway woods feature a new face design called Facewrap. The thin, high-strength maraging steel material used in the face wraps around into the crown and the sole of the club head. This increases the flexibility of the face for faster ball speeds, longer distance, and higher launch.
Next, PING designed a consistent level of performance they call Spinsistency. The face features a modified roll profile, especially low on the club face where the loft decreases. This helps normalize spin and increase ball speed for more launch. That is more than just consistency, that is Spinsistency.
They also placed a new 3-dot alignment system on the crown of the G425 fairway woods. This visual cue makes it easier to align the ball to best fit your eye for the type of shot you want to hit.
Performance
We tested the performance of the PING G425 fairway woods with the help of Rick Hatfield, head golf pro at Flint Hills National Golf Club and TGW’s resident product expert. For our test, Rick hit the G425 Max 3-wood with an average swing speed of 95-97 mph. His average ball speed was 138 mph. His average spin rate was 3,492 rpm, launching the ball at just less than 14°. Overall, Rick hit this club for an average of 218 yards of carry distance with consistently straight shots swing after swing.
Who It’s For
The PING G425 Max fairway wood is designed for golfers who want maximum forgiveness with distance as well as a consistently straight ball flight. Most players will fit easily into this offering.
The PING G425 LST fairway wood is made for golfers who are looking to reduce spin but also want that same high level of forgiveness. Golfers who are looking to lower their trajectory and get more rollout from their shots will benefit from the LST model.
The PING G425 SFT fairway wood is designed with maximum draw bias for players who want to straighten out a miss to the right. Golfers who consistently slice their fairway woods will benefit from the flight correction in the SFT model.
Appearance
With the appearance of the PING G425 fairway woods, the first thing we noticed was the turbulators had been removed from the crown. That feature is now only on the drivers. The crown is flat and looks clean down by the golf ball. There is a 3-dot alignment system that makes squaring up to the ball easy and these fairway woods do sit square at address.
Feel & Sound
When it comes to feel and sound, during our testing, Rick called the PING G425 fairway wood “the best-feeling 3-wood I have ever hit.” The sound and feel are pure and pleasing to match the performance of these golf clubs.
