Mizuno ST200 Driver Review
Technology
The Mizuno ST200 driver features a club face made from a revolutionary new kind of beta titanium. This unique material is stronger and more flexible, allowing Mizuno to make the entire face thinner for more spring-like effect and explosiveness at impact. Combined with the multi-thickness CORTECH design, the entire face is pushed to the legal limit of speed.
Mizuno also redesigned the sole to be lighter, creating a more compact WAVE structure that is more forgiving and faster on shots hit low on the face. A more stable Visual Face Angle bridge also allows the club to sit more neutral at address. Even the carbon fiber crown is lighter, weighing in at just 8.6 grams, allowing weight to be moved to crucial parts of the club head for more stability and forgiveness.
Finally, the ST200 driver uses an 11.6-gram weight plate and screw on the sole of the club that increases MOI for more forgiveness. It also provides the desired balance of high MOI and mid-to-low spin.
Who It’s For
The Mizuno ST200 driver is designed for golfers who want maximum forgiveness. With the weight centered in the sole of the club, the StT200 standard model boasts a high MOI which makes the club more stable and forgiving, especially on mis-hits. Golfers who tend to be a little inconsistent and miss the center of the face across various locations will benefit from the ST200 design.
Performance
To test the Mizuno ST200 driver, we compared it to the previous ST190 model. Right away, we noted an increase in carry distance by 8 yards and in total distance by 14 yards. That can be attributed to a ball speed increase of 2 mph while maintaining a 100 mph swing speed. The ST200 driver also reduced spin, around 2,700 rpm compared to the 3,000 in the previous model. Less spin also created a shallower landing angle, allowing for more roll out and added distance after the shot lands. The ST200 was also an incredibly straight driver with tighter dispersion from left to right.
Appearance
The Mizuno ST200 driver has a very clean look at address. It features a sleek black finish with a carbon fiber crown that is appealing down the ball. This golf club also sits square at address, adding confidence for all golfers.
Feel & Sound
Mizuno’s ST200 driver features a sound and feel best defined as a solid, sharp “crack”. That is a pleasing sound that lets you know you made solid contact with the golf ball. The face also feels very substantial. You can feel the ball off the face, letting you know where you made impact and providing solid feedback.
Mizuno ST200G Driver Review
Technology
The Mizuno ST200G driver carries over many of the same technologies as the ST200 version but adds in some extra customization. This model includes the beta titanium CORTECH face, lighter sole with compact WAVE structure, super-lightweight carbon fiber crown, and Visual Face Angle bridge.
What sets the ST200G driver apart is the adjustability on the sole. Sliding weight tracks offer a greater range of adjustability and give golfers more control over launch and center of gravity. Depending on which you prefer, you can move the weights forward for less spin or move the weights back for added forgiveness.
Who It’s For
The Mizuno ST200G driver is made for golfers who want to fine-tune and control their shot off the tee. Adjustable weights on the sole give you control over the center of gravity and trajectory to dial in a specific type of shot or eliminate a shot if you have one consistent miss with your driver. Golfers who are looking to eliminate that miss or create a consistent shot shape will benefit most from the ST200G model.
Performance
When testing the Mizuno ST200G driver, we compared it to the previous ST190G model. On average, we saw an increase in carry distance of about 3 yards and total distance of about 5 yards. Our tester swung both clubs at around 102 mph and saw a 2 mph increase in ball speed, likely attributed to the stronger, more flexible face technology. When adjusting the weights, we noticed moving the weight forward decreased the height of the shots by around 20 feet. Moving them back produced around 11 yards of draw bias.
Appearance
The Mizuno ST200G driver has a similar appearance to the others in the ST200 family. A sleek black finish, carbon fiber crown, and square set up at address all make for a clean look down by the ball.
Feel & Sound
The sound and feel of the Mizuno ST200G driver were also similar to the ST200. It produced that pleasing, sharp “crack” at impact and the face felt very responsive to provide the feedback you need to know how solid you hit the golf ball.
Mizuno ST200X Driver Review
Technology
The Mizuno ST200X driver has all the same features that make it a distinct member of the ST200 family. This model also includes the beta titanium CORTECH face, lighter sole with compact WAVE structure, super-lightweight carbon fiber crown, and Visual Face Angle bridge.
The ST200X model is unique in its draw-bias setup and lightweight components. Made to be authentic to Mizuno’s Japanese specifications, the ST200X features an overall lighter weight of 272 grams, longer club length, and draw-biased center of gravity for even more forgiveness. Everything from the club head to the shaft and the grip is designed to reduce weight and make this driver easier to swing.
Who It’s For
The Mizuno ST200X driver is designed for golfers who want to reduce a slice or promote a draw and need a boost in speed to increase distance. Players with more moderate swing speeds will find the lightweight components easy to swing faster without having to swing harder. The draw-biased center of gravity makes this club more forgiving as well.
Performance
Our testing of the Mizuno ST200X driver produced some interesting numbers. While carry distance was not the farthest, around 241 yards, we saw a longer total distance from lots of rollout after the ball hit the ground. The draw bias in the club head and a low spin rate produced nearly 40 yards of rollout. Out of the ST200 family, the ST200X was the lowest spinning at around 2,200 rpm. It also did help eliminate a miss to the right. The draw bias in the ST200X driver produced around 13 yards of movement to the left.
Appearance
While it is a draw-biased driver, the Mizuno ST200X sets up clean and square at address. While other draw-biased models may look a little hook-faced down by the ball, the ST200X does not. It also features the same sleek black finish and carbon fiber crown as the other ST200 models for a pleasing, no-distractions look.
Feel & Sound
The Mizuno ST200X driver feels noticeably lightweight. It felt effortless when swinging it during testing. At impact, just like the other ST200 drivers, it produced that higher-pitched, sharp “crack”. The face still felt very responsive to provide solid feedback on where you hit the ball.
