Technology
The Mizuno ST-X 220 hybrid starts with a thinner, super strong, and flexible face. MAS1C maraging steel face is super strong and flexible allowing for an overall thinner club face for extremely high ball speeds to boost distance.
Mizuno also included their signature Wave sole design. The re-engineered, lighter sole design features a more compact Wave structure that is more forgiving and faster on shots hit low on the face.
The ultra-thin lightweight waffle carbon crown helps create a lower center of gravity and generates a higher launch.
Performance
We tested the Mizuno ST-X 220 hybrid with the help of Rick Hatfield. Rick is TGW’s Master Fitter and our resident product expert. Our golf club testing was conducted indoors at the TGW Pure Performance Center using Foresight Sports launch monitors.
During our test, Rick recorded an average swing speed of 92.2 mph on the way to an average ball speed of 127.7 mph. He hit the 4 hybrid with a loft of 20°, achieving an average launch angle of 15.4°. His average spin rate was 4,123 rpm with a nice high ball flight and steep landing angle. All told, Rick averaged 197 yards of carry distance with the ST-X 220 hybrid.
