Technology
The Mizuno Pro 221 irons are made from a single billet of 1025E mild carbon steel using Mizuno’s signature Grain Flow Forged HD (High Density) process. This construction creates each iron from a single billet of 1025E Pure Select mild carbon steel and concentrates more metallic grains in the impact area for consistency, performance, and that unmistakable feel Mizuno irons are known for.
The graduated tapered blade shape in each club provides a more penetrating ball flight as loft increases through the set. It also allows Mizuno to fine-tune the height of the sweet spot and center of gravity location.
Each iron features a Tour-proven sole design. A narrower, more cambered sole provides ideal turf interaction and was requested by some of the world’s best players when testing the prototypes of these golf clubs.
A thicker muscle pad behind the impact zone allows golfers to feel the impact for a fraction longer thanks to Mizuno’s study of vibration patterns. This is their patented Harmonic Impact Technology.
Performance
We tested the performance for the Mizuno Pro 221 irons with the help of Rick Hatfield. Rick is TGW’s Master Fitter and resident product expert. Our test was conducted with the 7-iron. His average clubhead speed for this test was 83.9 mph with an average ball speed of 110 mph which is a great number for this type of iron. Rick’s average launch angle with this club was 18.7° with an average spin rate of 5,923 rpm. All together, his average carry distance was 156 yards.
Who It’s For
The Mizuno Pro 221 irons are made for the player who truly appreciates the look, feel, sound, and workability of the traditional blade iron. These clubs are made for more control and more consistency for the golfer who wants to pick an iron and know exactly what number they are going to reach with it.
Appearance
Mizuno’s Pro 221 irons feature a compact, tapered blade shape that looks like a premium muscleback player’s iron. A satin and mirror finish combination looks sophisticated while reducing glare down by the golf ball.
Feel & Sound
The sound and feel of the Mizuno Pro 221 irons are purely Mizuno. They are soft and responsive with a pleasing sound engineered through extensive research. Under the finish of these clubs, Mizuno includes a soft copper underlay that makes them feel even better when you hit the golf ball.
