As long as people are playing golf, whether for recreation or for competition, the pace of play will always be a hot topic of conversation. Golfers everywhere enjoy the game but may also be looking for tips to play a fast round of golf. Everyone has more fun when you get on the course, work your way around 18 holes, and the day doesn’t drag on. TGW has some keys to help you pick up the pace and play faster golf.
Invest In A Push Cart
Some rounds, you just may not feel like shelling out the money for a riding cart. Or maybe the course you are playing that day does not have them available. A push cart is your best friend when walking the golf course. Using a push cart eliminates the need to pick up and set down your golf bag before and after every single shot. They also help reduce fatigue, keeping you fresh and playing your best by the end of the day. TGW has a great selection of the best push carts for a fast round of golf.
Always Be Ready
While your playing partners are taking their turns, make sure you are preparing for your next shot. If you need to use your rangefinder to pick up your distance, this is the perfect time to do it. Going through your mental pre-shot routine will help you be ready to hit the ball when it’s your turn. That way you can step up to the ball, take your (reasonable amount) of practice swings, and keep things moving down the fairway.
Stick To Your Time Limits
The rules of golf say you have 3 minutes to search for a lost ball. Ensuring you and your group stick to that limit can help speed up your pace of play. On the same note, if you have any doubt about being able to find your golf ball, always hit a provisional. It will save you time from possibly having to go back to hit another shot and gives you an option if you do find your original ball. It’s also helpful to watch your partners’ shots so you can help locate their ball and reduce time searching.
Line Up Your Putts
When you reach the green, take the time to line up your putt while your partners are putting. As long as you are not interfering with another player’s line, go ahead and make your read and plan out your putt.
Keep Pace With The Group Ahead Of You
The ideal position on the course is immediately behind the group in front of you, not immediately in front of the group behind you. Make it your goal to arrive at your next shot just before the group in front leaves the area in front of you. If you are consistently not able to keep up and a gap opens in front of you, invite the group behind you to play through.
Don’t Be Afraid To Tee It Forward
Play from a set of tees that is comfortable for you. This means tees where you are more likely to hit lofted irons into greens instead of hybrids or fairway woods. It is acceptable for players in the same group to play from different tees. If you find yourself coming up short in terms of greens in regulation, play forward and put more scoring shots into play. You’ll play faster and even have more fun.
Good suggestions. I would like to add one. After hitting, get in the cart with your club and put it away the next time you stop.
