Having the right shaft in your golf clubs makes a world of difference to your game. The shaft affects club performance on everything from spin, launch, and speed. The wrong shaft could cause the ball to launch too high or too low as well as spin too much and cause you to lose distance.

Very informative. I live in a village in the far SE of Portugal and don’t have the option of “fitting”. So I have to buy online. These videos gave me some ideas as what to seek out.

Excellent write up! What about us guys who are over 70 and our swing speed is right in the middle, in other words, my swing speed is somewhere between the mid 80s up to the low 90s. Right on the bubble. My irons don’t go as far as they used too. But my hybrids and woods (1, 3 and 5) are all over the place. I have an R15 with a 65 gram “R” graphite shaft and another shaft which is a “A” shaft which ways about 55 grams. So, which do I choose? I have recently changed the length of my “R” shaft by shorting it by 2.0″. Seems to help, in that the club feels much better in my hands. I have hit drives 20-25 yards farther, is this what is supposed to happen with a shorter shaft? Does this change the “flex point”?

Outstanding video presentations. Very helpful, especially the section on kickpoint and torque. Maybe I can now start visiting the left side of fairways! 🙂

This is an excellent video presentation of shaft flex, torque, kickpoint, and length. Each video identifies what is actually best for an individual swing speed. I would suggest a minor improvement and that is to identify what exactly is standard length for a golf club as identified in the last video. With the measurements of height and wrist to floor, it would be nice to know what is standard length.

This is an awesome article, especially combined with the short videos and helpful charts.
What happens when you have someone who ends up right in the middle of the driver swing speed categories? Depending on the swing, I can be between 102-105 mph with a standard 45″ driver. That seems to fall between high stiff and low x-stiff.
Should I error to a stiffer shaft (x-stiff) or drop down to the softer shaft (stiff)?
Thank you again for a great article.
