Technology

The technology in the Cobra King RAD hybrids begins with their radial weighting design. Cobra uses two 6-gram internal weights in the front of the club head along with a 7-gram weight in the back. This combination of weights balances out the performance for ultra-low spin, high launch, and maximum forgiveness.

Next, the RAD hybrids feature Cobra’s signature rail system. They started with their hollow split rails on the front. By using hollow rails, they have created 70% more flex from heel to toe. That additional flex helps increase ball speed and produce higher launch. Then the Baffler rails on the back prevent the club from digging into the ground. This allows the RAD hybrids to glide effortlessly through all types of turf from tight lies, thick rough, and even bunkers.

Finally, Cobra uses a forged face insert in the King RAD hybrid golf clubs. The forged material is thinner and more flexible to generate faster ball speeds and higher launch to help you stop the ball and hold more greens.

Performance

We tested the Cobra King RAD hybrids with the assistance of Rick Hatfield, head golf pro at Flint Hills National Golf Club and TGW’s resident product expert. Rick hit the 21° model with the stock UST Recoil 480 ESX graphite shaft in stiff flex. His average swing speed with this club was 90.5 mph with an average ball speed of 128.4 mph. The launch was high and easy with a launch angle of 16.4°. Spin was appropriate as well at an average of 4,345 rpm. All told, Rick averaged 193 yards of carry distance, which was pleasing for a 4-hybrid.

Who It’s For

Golfers of all ability levels can benefit from the Cobra King RAD hybrids. Players who are looking for more forgiveness and versatility in their long game can get that with this combination of low spin, high launch, and fast ball speed. Cobra also offers this golf club in their One Length model for players who are looking for added accuracy and consistency by making it easier to perform a consistent, repeatable swing.

Appearance

The Cobra King RAD hybrids set up clean at address. When looking down at the ball, there is no offset or face progression. The face sits right in line with the hosel for a square look as you are setting up for your shot.

Feel & Sound

The Cobra King RAD hybrids feel and sound solid as you hit the golf ball. Much like the Cobra King RAD fairway woods, you get a fast, powerful feel during impact that lets you know you made solid contact. These clubs also feel smooth thanks to the Baffler rails that improve turf interaction and help these hybrids glide effortlessly through any type of lie.
