Cobra 2022 King Forged TEC Irons Review by TGW
Technology
Cobra uses a new 5-step forging process to create the softest feel possible with a hollow body for added distance and forgiveness. The hollow cavity is then filled with a flexible foam injection to promote an elastic rebound effect for impressive ball speed.
The signature forged face cup design increases ball speed across a wider area of the club face to provide maximum performance no matter where you make impact with the golf ball.
A heavy tungsten toe weight enhances stability on the perimeter of the club head while perfectly placing the center of gravity behind the hitting zone for a more pure feel.
The Forged TEC X irons feature more toe weight with 65 grams of tungsten that positions the center of gravity behind the hitting zone for greater forgiveness and more pure feel.
Performance
We tested the Cobra King Forged TEC irons with the help of Rick Hatfield. Rick is TGW’s Master Fitter and our resident product expert. Our golf irons testing was conducted indoors at the TGW Pure Performance Center using Foresight Sports launch monitors.
For this test, Rick hit the 7-iron with an average swing speed between 82-83 mph. His average ball speed was 113 mph with an average launch angle of 17.8°. Rick’s spin rate clocked in at 4,628 rpm, a medium spin rate for an iron of this nature. With a penetrating ball flight, Rick averaged 166 yards of carry distance.
With the Forged TEC X 7-iron, Rick’s average ball speed was 117 mph, an increase over the standard Forged TEC model. His launch and spin were both slightly lower as well at 17° and 4,306 rpm respectively. Even with a similar trajectory, Rick averaged a greater carry distance of 173 yards with the Forged TEC X irons.
Who it’s For
The Cobra Forged TEC irons are a great option for better players who like a more compact shape, classic design, and thinner topline but need some added distance and forgiveness. These irons fit nicely into the player’s distance category.
The Cobra Forged TEC X irons are a great option for golfers who like a classic player’s iron shape but want extreme distance and forgiveness. The Forged TEC X has a lower center of gravity, stronger lofts, and 45 more grams of tungsten than the standard Forged TEC irons.
Appearance
Cobra’s latest edition for the King Forged TEC irons features a sleeker, more compact shape than previous versions. The topline is also thinner to create a classic player’s iron appearance that sets up square and frames the ball nicely at address.
