Cleveland Launcher XL Driver Review by TGW
Technology
The Cleveland Launcher XL driver begins with a larger head design than ever before. This bigger footprint allowed Cleveland to increase perimeter weighting for even more stability and their highest-ever MOI rating in a driver. There is also more weight low and deep in the club head to produce a high launch and maximum distance to go along with that added accuracy.
Cleveland then used their signature Rebound Frame design in this new driver. The Launcher XL uses a flex zone in the face and a second flex zone in the body with a rigid zone in between them. This technology directs more energy into the golf ball at impact to increase ball speed and distance.
This driver is better balanced as well. Cleveland’s Action Mass CB uses an 8-gram weight in the end of the grip to keep the golf club light and under control on your backswing. When you start your downswing, this counterbalanced weight keeps the club on a square path to make you more accurate.
Finally, the Launcher XL driver has an adjustable hosel with a massive amount of custom options. The hosel can be adjusted from 9° up to 12° in 0.5° increments. In all, there are 12 different positions so you can fine-tune your launch and performance to perfectly match your swing.
Performance
We tested the performance of the Cleveland Launcher XL driver with the help of Rick Hatfield. Rick is TGW’s Master Fitter and resident product expert. During this test, Rick’s average swing speed was 100 mph. His average ball speed was fast at 147 mph with an average launch angle of 12.3°. Combine that with an average spin rate of 2,252 rpm and a maximum height of 91 feet and Rick averaged 247 yards of carry distance with this driver.
Who It’s For
Cleveland’s Launcher XL driver is a game improvement golf club. It is designed for players looking to launch the ball higher, boost their speed, and get maximum distance and forgiveness off the tee. If you are a golfer that could use a little help in any of these areas, this driver is one to try.
Appearance
The Cleveland Launcher XL driver features a large, oversized footprint that looks big and inspires confidence down by the golf ball. This golf club also features Cleveland’s signature combination of black with blue accents for a sleek, fast appearance. It also sets up just slightly closed in the standard position.
Feel & Sound
The Cleveland Launcher XL driver feels and sounds extremely responsive at impact. With a hotter, more flexible face and larger club head, the sound is pleasing and resonating without being distracting and it feels solid on every strike.
