Callaway MAVRIK Drivers Defy Conventional Design For Greater Performance

Callaway continues to drive golf clubs into the future with the use of artificial intelligence. The MAVRIK drivers and fairway woods are fully optimized for total performance with zero compromises. MAVRIK represents the next phase in Callaways’ Flash Face Technology. A new artificial intelligence architecture and face design creates a specific, optimized version of the face for every individual driver. That means the face on the 9-degree driver is different than the 10.5-degree and 12-degree.

Flash Face Technology uses a specific pattern of ridges with varying thickness in optimum places of the club face to maximize ball speed no matter where you make contact. The MAVRIK driver is offered in standard, Max, and Sub Zero models. All three of the drivers feature Flash Face and Callaway’s signature Jailbreak Technology to get the most speed and distance out of each club. Check out our exclusive reviews as we break down each model.

Callaway Mavrik Driver Review

The Callaway MAVRIK driver is the flagship design that fits the majority of golfers. In addition to the new Flash Face design and proven Jailbreak Technology, this driver is made with a new Cyclone aero design that Callaway engineered. This shape features a taller ribbon and flatter crown, designed to reduce drag through the swing and boost speed. Testing shows that the Cyclone shape reduced drag by around 60%, resulting in an increase of 1 to 1.5 mph more club head speed.

Callaway also used a new type of high-strength titanium to create the face of the MAVRIK driver. This unique type of titanium is called FS2S and is stronger, more flexible, and makes for a more consistent face to keep speed and distance high. By using a stronger material, they are able to use less of it and save 6 grams of weight. Altogether, the MAVRIK driver is the fastest and fits the most golfers. There is a 5-gram weight screw in the back of the head to help increase launch as well.

Who It’s For

The Callaway MAVRIK driver is made to fit the majority of golfers. The MAVRIK model does not feature any adjustable weights but does have an adjustable hosel to customize launch. It is made to square up and hit your best shot by letting the technology in the club do the work. Most golfers on the golf course can benefit from this design.

Performance

When we tested the Callaway MAVRIK driver, we saw an improvement in distance and dispersion over last year’s Epic Flash model. We saw similar ball speed but higher launch and less spin that helped our tester gain about 4 total yards of distance. We also saw a tighter dispersion with about 10 yards less deviance from left to right. So the Callaway MAVRIK driver consistently produces both longer and straighter drives.

Callaway Mavrik Max Driver Review

Loaded with all the MAVRIK technology, the MAVRIK Max driver features some subtle changes that make it incredibly forgiving. This driver is the model of choice for players who need more launch, more forgiveness, and some draw bias. At address, it sits more square to help golfers return the club to square at impact and eliminate a slice. There are also two weight ports on the sole of the club, one in the back and one near the heel. The 14-gram weight and 2-gram weight are interchangeable so you can put more weight in the heel for more draw bias or place the heavier weight back in the head for higher launch and more stability.

Who It’s For

The Callaway MAVRIK Max driver is the game improvement model of the MAVRIK line. For golfers who need maximum forgiveness and slice correction, this is the choice for them. Interchangeable weights allow golfers to put more weight into the heel of the club for draw-biased weighting to eliminate that slice.

Performance

The Callaway MAVRIK Max driver hit the ball super straight in our testing. It certainly did its job in being more forgiving. For our tester, this driver produces a little bit more spin with a reduction in distance from the MAVRIK driver, but each shot was accurate to the target for a more forgiving driver. When we moved the heavier weight to the heel of the club, we saw about 14 yards of left bias which will greatly help golfers who struggle with a slice.

Callaway Mavrik Sub Zero Driver Review

For better golfers who swing fast and need to reduce spin in order to get the most distance out of their driver, Callaway has the MAVRIK Sub Zero driver. Sub Zero is made with a smaller profile that better golfers prefer. It is designed to sit neutral at address so it looks workable down by the ball to give you the confidence to shape the shot you need. Callaway also included 14-gram and 2-gram interchangeable weights between the front and back of the club head to control ball flight and spin.

Who It’s For

The Callaway MAVRIK Sub Zero driver is the players’ model in the MAVRIK lineup. With its neutral setup and more compact 450cc head size, it offers a look that better golfers prefer down by the ball. Its low-spin performance benefits golfers with faster swing speeds who already produce enough spin and could gain more distance by lowering their spin rate off the tee.

Performance

In testing, the Callaway MAVRIK Sub Zero driver was a consistent performer. Our tester did pick up a little more club head speed with the MAVRIK Sub Zero as well. We saw around 2200 rpm in spin off the tee with about 147 mph ball speed for a total distance of 281 yards in firm conditions. We also achieved a higher launch angle and tighter dispersion by about 10%. The MAVRIK Sub Zero was also able to produce shaped shots with an easier to manipulate face.

Appearance

The Callaway MAVRIK drivers offer a different look than what we have seen from these golf clubs in the past. The biggest difference is the Cyclone Aero shape. Designed to reduce drag, you notice the flatter crown and higher ribbon area when the club is set on the ground. The whole club head looks more aerodynamic, especially when looking at the sole of the club. Even the graphics on the top have changed over previous models, including the use of an orange-yellow accent color instead of green.

Feel & Sound

The feel of the Callaway MAVRIK drivers is distinctly Callaway according to our product expert. Contact feels crisp and solid with a sound to match when you impact the golf ball. Golfers who have played previous Callaway drivers will find no surprises here. The sound and feel are consistent with what you expect with a Callaway driver.

You made no mention on whether the Mavrik Max driver achieved less spin, lower flight or distance when the 14g weight is on the heel. I think that was an important bit of information that readers would like to know. I know I do. Thank you
