Technology
The Callaway Apex MB 21 irons feature a new weight design for even more precision. Engineers developed a new weight that is placed in the center of the club head. This weight achieves two goals. First, it allows Callaway to precisely dial in the swingweight of each iron and second, it does so without sacrificing the center of gravity location. Precise weight and feel meet the exact CG you need for maximum performance.
These new Apex MB irons also feature a new level of control and spin. Callaway used their high-performance 20V grooves on each iron. This groove design provides spin and control that muscleback iron players expect from every type of lie. These grooves reduce fliers from the rough and provide maximum control from the fairway.
Performance
We tested the Callaway Apex MB 21 irons with the help of Rick Hatfield. Rick is the head golf pro at Flint Hills National Golf Club and TGW’s resident product expert. Our testing was conducted using the 7-iron which Rick was swinging at an average of 83.5 mph. We saw an average ball speed of 109.7 mph which only varied by 1 mph from swing to swing so the speed with the Apex MB irons was incredibly consistent. With that speed, Rick was producing an average spin of 6,100 rpm. That all added up to an average carry distance of 150 yards. With that level of distance and spin, you can expect to hold the green successfully with these clubs.
