Build Swing Speed in Your Backyard - The Golf Guide

Build Swing Speed in Your Backyard

Speed is a crucial part of everyone’s golf game. Building speed is the biggest way you can build distance in your golf swing. Every golfer wants to hit the ball farther so it is no surprise that speed training has become more popular recently. The best part is you can build swing speed right at home in your backyard without hitting a golf ball.

TGW has some unique golf training aids that can help you do just that. With these practice tools, you can swing them just like your regular golf clubs but through different methods, you build speed without having to worry about contact. We are highlighting some products here that come from two different methods of building speed: overspeed training and resistance training.

SuperSpeed Golf Training System

The SuperSpeed Golf training system is a pioneer in overspeed training. This set comes with three training golf clubs, one light, one medium, and one heavy, but all three are made to be lighter than your standard driver. Studies have shown that by training with lighter clubs, you will increase swing speed and consistency.

Each golf club has a weight on the end with a flexible shaft and standard grip so you swing it just like a normal golf club but never make contact with a golf ball. This system trains you on how to feel the proper golf swing at a faster club head speed. Every set comes with two-years’ worth of online video instruction and training takes just 10 minutes per day, three days a week. In just six weeks, you can see an increase in club head speed by 5%.

Michael Breed Swing Fan

On the other end of the spectrum is the Michael Breed Swing Fan. The Swing Fan is heavier than a usual club and features fins at the bottom to help create resistance through your downswing. Swinging this heavier golf training aid with added air resistance helps build strength in the key muscles needed for golf. By building those muscles and then swinging a golf club without the added resistance, you naturally swing faster, hit the ball harder, and hit it farther.

The Swing Fan also features a bent shaft designed to help you maintain the proper lean through the golf swing to train for the best impact position. It also includes a guided grip to put your hands in the proper place every time. So you are not just building more swing speed, you are building a better golf swing on the whole.

SkyTrak with Game Improvement Plan

Sometimes the best way to practice is to hit real golf shots in real golf situations. The SkyTrak Launch Monitor allows you to simulated rounds with all the metric tracking of a launch monitor. You will see every shot with metrics such as ball speed, launch angle, backspin, club speed, side spin, and side angle as well as displays carry distance, offline and total distance. You can see what good shots look like when you make better contact and swing on the proper path any time, even from home.

Orange Whip Golf Swing Trainer

Of course, it’s important to warm up get loosened before you ever hit a golf ball. To establish a good kinematic sequence, tempo, and stretch, players should warm up with the Orange Whip Swing Trainer. Regardless of dexterity, as part of the warm-up routine players should swing both right- and left-handed. This allows you to get all of your muscles loose and help develop rhythm and timing as you prepare to hit shots.

The kinematic sequence is how the different parts of the body move and accelerate through the swing. For example, in your downswing, the proper sequence would be to lead with the hips, rotate the torso, then swing your arms, and release the club last.
