Improve Your Putting Inside 10 Feet
Many tour players say golf is 90 percent mental, which explains why the shorter distances often rattle weekend golfers. You can make or break any round on the putting green, and learning how to consistently sink putts within 10 feet can dramatically lower your score. Learn how to take fewer strokes on the green by following these simple putting tips:
- Pick a spot: Instead of staring directly at your ball, pick a spot along the path six to 12 inches in front of the ball and aim to roll the ball directly over that spot.
- Keep the core of your body still: When addressing your ball, it’s important to keep your core and lower body still. This stabilizes your base and promotes consistency in your stroke.
- Keep your club face angle square: The angle of your putter should be square with the path of your putt. This not only helps you cleanly strike the ball, it also promotes accuracy.
- Lead with your top hand: The top hand of your putting grip should be used as a guide hand, helping you follow through on the line you’re aiming for.
- Be comfortable: This is the most important part of putting. The tips above are merely suggestions. If you’ve found a unique overhand grip or you like an open or closed stance that works for you, stick with it. Use these tips to help you bust out of a slump or when you’re ready to try something different.
