Q & A

Callaway Mack Daddy 4 Tour Chrome Wedges

Callaway's Mack Daddy 4 wedges set a new standard for performance and appearance. New for this year is Groove-in-Groove Technology that creates 84 points of contact with the golf ball for maximum spin. They've also added a new X-Grind for golfers who prefer high bounce in addition to the returning C-, S-, and W-Grinds. The C-Grind has been updated with more heel relief than previous versions. MD4 wedges are ideal for all types of golfers; it's a matter of matching the right loft and grind options to your swing type and typical turf conditions. With 21 loft-bounce combinations and two premium finishes, there's an MD4 wedge (or two or three!) for every golfer.

Features:

  • New Groove-in-Groove Technology features micro-positive surface texture with radius grooves raised off the face for more grip and maximum spin
  • Four sole grinds to fit every type of swing and turf: C-Grind, S-Grind, W-Grind, and the new X-Grind
  • Tour-inspired compact shape with features like a straighter leading edge developed through input from professional golfers
  • Soft carbon steel construction, precise CG locations, and crisp turf interaction delivers a satisfying feel
  • Available in your choice of platinum chrome or black matte finish

Groove-In-Groove Technology

Callaway's newest technology maximizes face roughness and spin for ideal performance in any condition. A micro-positive surface roughness is milled into the flat parts of the face featuring raised micro-ridges with micro-grooves in between to grab the golf ball's cover. The main grooves are saw-cut and horizontally milled to precise tolerances. Lower-lofted wedges feature 20D grooves for consistent spin on full shots. Higher-lofted wedges have aggressive 5D grooves for maximum control out of taller grass and around the green.

Tour-Inspired Shape

Based on feedback from professional golfers, Roger Cleveland worked tirelessly to get the shapes, soles, grinds, and performance just right. MD4 wedges have a more compact shape, straighter leading edge with a tighter radius, and slightly more offset compared to the MD3.

Unique, Satisfying Feel

The feel of the MD4 wedges starts with soft 8620 carbon steel in your chose of Platinum Chrome or Matte Black finish. Four weight ports on the back help Callaway place the center of gravity progressively upward as the loft increases for the most solid feel on every shot. Combined with a Dynamic Gold Tour-Issue 115 shaft and premium Lamkin UTx grip, the feel is enhanced even further.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great control Purchased 3 mack daddy wedges, 52,56, and 60 with an S grind. My control around the green to 120 yards out has improved greatly. After getting used to chipping with the 60 I have greatly improved my short game.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Club I believe meets design intent. Do not like the milled club. Should have went with the forged! Standard shaft length too short for my preference. Club is too light . Simply did not meet expectations.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Gap Wedge I purchased the 50/10 S Grind Wedge with Ty XP 95 R Flex! Easy to hit from most lies, predictable distance and good stopping power. Excellent feel around the greens!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Money :) Feel and control is unreal for all 3 wedges I purchased. Chipping with these wedges comes off the ground like butter. Haven’t had this many tap in putts. Made a 40’ chip in for eagle second round using them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great club, even for an average.weekend golfer. I've never had a great short game, within 20 yards of the green. I'm just an average golfer, and don't hit the practice range as much as I'd like. I've tried 56 degree wedges before (Cleveland & Bridgestone), but couldn't get them to work for me. I always ended up using my sand wedge within 20 yards. I trusted it, but it was always too much club and not enough accuracy. The MACK DADDY is now that club for me. It's got a little heavier weight than other 56 loft wedges I've used, so I feel like I can trust it more. I get great precision and loft and can use it from within 40 feet of the green at any distance. Again, I'm just an average golfer, but this club definitely worked for me. Best money I've spent on a club in years.

what is bounce on a wedge?

Asked by: Lmcsr
The bounce angle is the angle between the ground and the leading edge of the club when the sole is rested on the ground. If you have a steeper angle of attack and take large divots, you'll want more bounce to prevent the club from digging into the ground. If you have a shallow angle of attack and take little to no divot, you'll want less bounce to help get the leading edge of the club under the ball and improve launch. Bounce options will vary depending on which loft you select.

What is the loft of a gap wedge?

Asked by: Nancy
A gap wedge will usually be 48°-52° in loft, depending on the loft of the pitching wedge and sand wedge.

What type of grind works best for different types of golfers? Same with the shaft

Asked by: Bogie
The C Grind has less bounce so suited to firmer course conditions and there’s increased relief on the heel making it easier to play shots with the face open. The S Grind has a medium width sole with slight camber at the back and moderate heel relief to keep the leading edge low through impact. The W Grind should offer the most forgiveness through its wider sole and extra bounce. There’s gene rough front to back camber to prevent digging. Possibly the most versatile of the four options. The all-new X Grind has a narrow but high-bounce sold. Callaway say it should suit moderate to steep attack angles and medium to soft course conditions. The stock shaft available for this club is the TT XP-115 Steel. If you would like a different shaft you would need to click the "enter custom specs" button located just above the image of the club.
