Q & A

PING Men's G400 Irons

More Distance, Higher Launch

Through the years, G-series irons from PING have garnered a reputation for giving golfers incredible playability and impressive forgiveness, and that’s something that will not be changing with the new G400 irons. In fact, the new G400 irons are arguably the most player friendly G-series irons that PING has ever created, which is lofty praise. Most notably, these are irons that offer incredible distance and launch conditions while still delivering the spin rates that players need to stop the ball on the green. The stock shaft options for the G400 irons are the AWT 2.0 steel or the lightweight Alta CB graphite. PING, however, is offering several popular aftermarket shafts at no upcharge to fit the needs of players who need a different shaft profile.

  • PING’s COR-Eye Technology and a new Toprail Undercut Cavity work in unison to help the clubface flex more at impact for increased ball speed and higher launch.
  • Made with Hyper 17-4 Stainless Steel, the G400’s clubface is 40 percent thinner when compared to the G iron, which also contributes to ball speed increases.
  • A concealed Custom Tuning Port has been implemented into the design to increase perimeter weighting for enhanced forgiveness, while a full cavity badge produces improved acoustics and feel at impact.
  • The G400’s Hydropearl chrome finish offers elegant aesthetics and provides 40 percent less friction to deliver more consistent results in wet conditions or from difficult lies in the rough.

PING Men's G400 Irons Black Standard Utility Wedge AWT 2.0 Steel Regular Left is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 73.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great wedges! I bought the Ping G400 wedges with the regular graphite wedges (Alta CB) to complete my set of G400 irons. I've been to the range a couple of times and played a round with them, and they perform as expected! They're great with a good swing and still pretty good with a marginal swing (that's what most of my swings are). Jury is still out on the grips. They are good, but I wonder if the Dyla Wedge grips would have been better.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love the feel hate the easy marking I have had these for about 6 weeks, I love the feel, sound, forgiveness of the clubs, performance I cant fault them, you can really feel the ball spring off the face. The thing I hate is I was using secondhand clubs prior that were 10+ years old and after 6 weeks they look worse than the old clubs the finish is horrible and scratches and marks so easily. I haven't used a brush to clean as others have said that scratches I have used a soft cloth but they still look horrible, I have always cleaned my clubs after every round or two but these ones irritate me how bad they look after not much work. I guess I am also annoyed they took a while to ship in and by the time they got to me ping announced the new g410 irons.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best purchase I purchased these irons a few weeks ago. I switched from Callaway Rogue X’s Because the flight was too low and had unpredictable distance. With my well fitted G400’s I have gained distance and higher flight consistency. I hit at least three more greens per round and have reduced my index by 1.5. I just love these irons.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love these irons! Tried the G400 irons when I went in for a pro fitting at my golf club. I've struggled with consistency in my iron shots ever since I took up golf 15 years ago and was about to give up. I previously used Taylormade Burner irons, which I bought off the shelf and on occasion would get good hits, but never felt confident when I grabbed an iron that it would actually launch. Standing 5 feet 8 inches, I decided to get fitted and found out that I was most comfortable with a plus one inch in shaft length, which is a man's standard. What a difference! I no longer stress about getting over water or other course hazards. I've only used a few times so far and I'm still getting used to them but I really feel that my game is already improving and hoping my handicap will keep getting lower. My only criticism is that they do nick easily, but as long as the face itself isn't affected, I can live with a few scratches and nicks. I would highly recommend these irons for women golfers and just ordered the G400 driver to go with my set.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Quality of the clubs can be a lot better Love the clubs, forgiving but the quality of the material or coating is not great, they scratch very easy

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best Irons I have used I’ve been fitted twice with mi uno before I think that the ping fitting program is second to none the feel sound and forgiveness is outstanding I’m a 7 handicap and have played 7 out of my last 10 rounds under handicap just waiting for the U Wedge because there’s a big gap in loft between pitching wedge and the sand wedge if you have a decent swing these clubs are for you

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for low handicaps I was tired of hitting traditional players clubs. The G400s have a great profile that doesn’t scream “chunky”. The stronger lofts allowed me to go 6-P dropping the 5 iron I used to carry. The biggest concern I heard about was lower spin rates compared to a players iron. Now objectively there is most likely a difference, but subjectively I haven’t noticed during on course testing. I get plenty of stopping power into greens and am able to control trajectory. Feels like I’m playing on easy mode. Hopefully by next summer I can push from +1 to +3. Note: Get custom fit. :)

What is the flex spectrum for the Project X shafts? In the numerical range, which is the stiffer shaft?

Asked by: 11th Tee
The higher the number, the stiffer the shaft. For the Project X: 6.5 would be the stiffest, the 6, then 5.5, then 5.

I am looking to purchase your G400 series irons. I am 69 years old and have a swing speed in middle 90's which will go down with age (I was over 100)  Should I go with the Alta CB a graphite shaft?

Asked by: ken48
That sounds like the right fit. If you receive the club and it is not the right fit, this club does have a 30 day playability option.
