Q & A
Titleist had great success with its 816 H1 and H2 hybrids in part by conditioning golfers that their hybrids should be viewed as scoring clubs. That being the case, the 816 hybrids featured tremendous customization options, as well as two unique head designs to accommodate any swing type. With its new 818 hybrids, Titleist has added even more customization, while also incorporating enhanced distance and forgiveness. In terms of customization, the new 818 hybrids will feature the SureFit CG Technology that has proven to be both popular and successful in Titleist’s 917 drivers and fairway woods. More specifically, players will be able to position a weight cartridge that runs through the clubhead to achieve their ideal launch condition, spin rate, and shot shape. Also new with the 818 hybrids is a revamped Active Recoil Channel that features not only an improved design but also a polymer insert that flexes more to create added ball speed from across the clubface. Additionally, when compared to their 816 counterparts, MOI has been increased by 10 percent in the 818 hybrids to provide more forgiveness on mis-hits and more clubhead stability at impact. What hasn’t changed with the 818 hybrids is who the two models were designed for. The H1 was created for players who sweep the ball off the turf with a hybrid as they would with a fairway wood. When compared to the H2, the H1 also features a larger, pear-shaped profile, as well as a slight face progression that helps promote higher launch. Titleist is again utilizing its SureFit hosel system, which offers 16 settings to help players achieve their preferred ball flight and trajectory, and it also has a new shaft lineup in play for the 818 hybrids. Included are the Mitsubishi Tensei Red (high launch) and Tensei Blue (mid launch). Titleist 818 H1 hybrids will be available in standard lofts of 19, 21, 23, 25, and 27 degrees.

“We’re really excited about the 818 H1 and H2 hybrids. They’re the best hybrids we’ve ever made, and we’ve had the No. 1 hybrid on the PGA Tour for the last two or three years. There’s really no one else that’s offering this level of customization and playability in hybrids, and these are our longest and most forgiving hybrids yet.”
Josh Talge, Vice President of Marketing for Titleist Golf Clubs
“My preference would be for the H1. I’m more of a sweeper, so I like that look and the appearance at address. The less offset on the H1 was something I really noticed. The launch angles were just incredible. You can get excited about hitting these into a green.”
